I have looked but have never found any. Would be interesting to see how they were assembled.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried to contact one or more of the companies that built them to see if they have anything in their archives about building mules for the gov contract.

Since the A2 is my favorite model, I did a bunch of research on Bowen & McLaughin-York. From what I can find, the A2 production took place at the BMY Blair Station plant in West Manchester Township, York, PA.

BMY was bought out by Harsco, which later merged with MFC Corp. to become United Defense Industries, and even later bought out by BAE Systems.

I wrote some letters to the companies, but received no replies.

I did a little research on Baifield Industries, and it appears they are no longer in Business. Shows to be a division of ATO Inc. in Texas, but no longer active. Found even less on the Baifield Emtex division.

Brunswick Corp.had a Defense Products Group, but I can't seem to find much information about it.

Clearly, more research needs to be done, but I'm about burned out on the subject.

Automotive Industries, March 1, 1958 has a 2 page article with photos of assembly at the Toledo, OH plant. The 6 photos are black and white. Not sure how they will appear for copy but will send to Chuck for posting if suitable.

Here are the pages from Automotive Industries magazine that Phil found. Thank you, Phil; these are the first and only photos that I have ever seen.

Great photos, thanks Phil and Chuck for sharing them with us. BTW, how do you suppose they attached the mule to that roll over fixture in the picture?

I've got a 16mm army training film showing testing mules in a bunch of different applications, it's really neat. I recently had it converted to digital format and will see if I can figure out a way to post it.

This is from a 16 mm film that was given to me by a film collector. It is labeled "Mule Vehicle Testing At USMCB Quantico, VA. 1950's"
I found someone who, for a small fee, converted it to digital format. Enjoy!

BTW - there was no sound on the original film, sorry!

Nice video Chuck, thanks for sharing it. I was looking at the two pipes on the driver's side and wondering what they were for until I saw the underwater scenes and realized they were snorkels.
