Stock pintle. just have to be careful if you reverse at an angle, the lunette can flip to the top of the pintle and effectively lock the vehicles together, which is bad.

So, are you going to try the mule on the Rubicon Trail? Photos please!

Funny you mention that, Chuck. My other mule came from Rubicon Springs, (the private property site of a 19th century hotel and spa along the Rubicon Trail), many years ago. It belonged to one of the property owners and was kept in a shed there for years. One day it decided not to run, so it was flown out in pieces and I was in a position to buy it cheap, once it landed in Georgetown, because it was in 2 main pieces, with much hardware in beer cans, coffee cans etc.I got it home, bought a few ignition parts from Bill W., had it running in no time. Since then we have trucked in and out another property owners mule in his WC63 a few times, but those were brutal trips with no power steering and I doubt that will happen again. I should look for those photos.

Back to the mule at hand, got it running after installing a fuel pump.
Gas in the tank didn't smell great, so I pulled it and it was clean inside and I will replace the in-tank filter. Meanwhile I used a siphon hose that fits a standard jerry can.
Also hadn't noticed a nice bonus, the tow bar is still there.

There were no rails, darn. Probably the most glaring problem. Any idea where to get them? And I am very happy with the overall straightness, just some bonus holes in the deck. Under side of the engine cover is OD, so I guess PO painted the blue.

Contact me via e-mail prefered or PM about rails I may have an extra set available plus the mounting bolts.
Noticed you used the Airtex fuel pump it works and is used on the genset 2AO42 and 4AO84 engines. The bottom screw for the carb intake tube in most cases can't be installed because the flange is to close to the hump on the fuel pump.
The original AC fuel pumps can be rebuilt without removing the base requiring removing the blower and bending the sheet metal to access the mounting screws.

Tim, in regard to your flooding problem. I might have missed it being mentioned, but don't forget to check the fuel return line to the gas tank at the carburetor. If that little tube is clogged, it could increase fuel pressure to the point of flooding the engine.

Yes, the Airtex is what it had and what I was sold, got it in without too much grief. The bottom screw on the air intake was a short slot-head screw that could be installed with a log screwdriver, so it was o.k. but thanks for the info on the AC fuel pump because not removing the housing would be preferable for sure.

Re: Followed me home, think it's an A5
Thanks for the heads-up on that. I think the flooding was caused by the throttle/governor linkage holding the butterfly open. Once I lubricated it, the throttle returned to idle and is now fine. After I pulled the tank, I blew out the fuel lines and am going to do away with the in-tank filter, as it didn't have the original, just a paper element. The tank is clean, and nothing else uses an in-tank filter, so what the heck. Now I just need the tank gasket and other filters I ordered today.Auto Shop teacher wrote:Tim, in regard to your flooding problem. For sale. I can't keep it, as nice as it is. Runs, drives, stops. Very straight. Location: South Lake Tahoe, CA. Can be delivered to the MVCC fall meet Tower Park in Sept.Chuck W. wrote: ↑Thu Jul 06, 2017 7:11 amBased on that 325326 registration number, your mule is an M274A5, built by Baifield Industries - Emtex Division, in June, 1968 under contract DA-20-113-AMC-07129(T). Serial number should be 11032. John Emery will have the exact replacement data plate and drive rivets. Your mule would have been painted 34052 Semi-gloss Forest Green as built. John also makes a very nice exact reproduction bed rail set if you don't have your originals. Correct canvas seat cushions are available from WeeBee Webbing: http://www.odcloth.com/products.html

No, as tempting as it is, it's going to Tower Park for sale in a few weeks. I just thought it would look more presentable in OD.

I noticed that, kinda cool. Like when Zeph over on the Dodge side got that WC16 only 4 digits off mine. Small world.
