164th Infantry follow up.

Post by Fargomartin » Sun Jul 30, 2006 7:26 pm

Just a follow up. The 164th Infantry Regiment was comprised mostly of North Dakota National Guard Units. They were attached to the Americal Division during World War II.
They were the first Army Unit to take the offensive against the enemy during WWII.
They fought gallantly on Guadal Canal and Bouganville against the Japanese.
They served in combat for more than 600 days. They were one of the most highly decorated units during WWII.
