I own 3 slat grill jeeps, two are wrecked but I'm going to save them anyway. Here is some partial information:
MB 108809, Delivered 1-5-42. I'll have to get the gusset number and axle dates later. This is the nice one.
MB 112484, Delivered 1-16-42, gusset number 1578? The last digit is only a curved top, it could be a 2, 3, 8 or 9. The frame is rusted through in so many spots it cannot be saved. I recently purchased a donor MB frame, circa 1943-44.
MB ? Frame plate gone, data plate gone, front axle date 12-15-41, rear axle date 12-20-41, gusset number 5756, engine is MB 226981 with a casting date of 2-4. I'm assuming that would have to be 2-4-43. The body is ruined by rust and ranch modifications and a collision that broke the front axle into two pieces, knocked the engine off the mounts, and cracked the transmission case. Not a single panel can be saved, not even the cowl. But the frame is in great shape, I just have to get it straightened.

All information is from original data plates.

I tried uploading pics from my cell phone but the files are way too large. Not being a techie I'm at a loss as to how to reduce the size.

Dear fellows,

I would like some help to estimate a serial number from a Willys MB, the jeep is here in Brasil, the body number is 3985 (Body ACM Type II). Possibly this body was made in janeiro de 1944. Possibly the serial number in the range of 300750 to 301250.

Mr. sjalbert helped with your database (both from the web archive data):
S/N, DOD, Tub #
299623, 1/18/1944, 1660
301373, 1/30/1944, 7991

What will be the serial number for this body?

Could anyone help with Willys MB numbers manufactured in January 1944?

Any help will be appreciated.

Best Regards
Jivago De Nadai

For the record:
I have a Slat Grill, 125696 Built 3/9/42, BRT Contract. apparently the last day of Slat Grill production.
I believe it was delivered to Australia in early 1945 and and appears not to have been used and eventually disposed of to Dominion Motors NSW some time later (date not recorded). These records obtained from Australian War Museum.
The original owner purchased from a builder in Sydney some time in the 70's and had the body re built by Jan Geesink of New Zealand and shipped to Melbourne. Some time later the Jeep and owner re-located to New Zealand and the rebuild completed.
I have the original Brass serial plates and it has the correct serial number on chassis.
The overall condition is excellent although one or two parts are not quite correct, (fuel gauge, Ford rear seats and similar). The original engine is long gone and is fitted with a later Willys crate motor of what I believe to be of Korean War vintage.
I have no knowledge of where or why the Jeep was not shipped overseas after manufacture but can only assume it was used in USA or stored. Someone may have a better idea than me on this.
Unfortunately I do not have the original USA number as this was not recorded by the Australian authorities (although others were).

Regards from New Zealand

Here's another to add to the list. #121982 DOD 2/23/42. The jeep is not mine, the owner will not sell (yet  ). I am going to try and keep an eye on this one though and hopefully save it from total destruction. It no longer has the slat grille, stamped instead, but had some of the original parts such as light switch, speedo, fuel gauge, side handles and tranny. Motor was the f head. I did record the data plate info and put it in the serial numbers page so that might help somebody that has one close to it someday.
After 8 years i finally have possession of this jeep. It needs a lot of work and an mb engine, transmission, and transfer case.

You can add my Slat grill. DOD is 01-14-1942. Serial number 112038 has matching dash plate and frame tag. Cannot find hood number due to no paint left on it. Toe gusset number is 15358. Unrestored civilian flat head engine. But I plan to restore one day.

Also have MB DOD 03-11-1942 126655 has matching dash plate and frame tag. Has engine in 123000 range dated 11-1941 on bottom of engine where oil pan gasket goes. Toe gusset is 29976. Body has Willys in the back panel and tub has glove box. Still has right hand drain T84 in that shifts like a dream.

William,

Would you please update your list? I bought Slat I06I63, DoD 12-24-41 as per the data plate. Body nr. is 6650. Intend to use engine MB-105992 (Thanks Zephyr11 ;-) ) if it is rebuildable.

Purchased from a guy located near Seattle WA. USA. He bought it from a guy somewhere in California (Primal4x4). His name is currently in the list as the owner.

Doing a frame off restoration at the moment, intend to drive it to Normandy next year.

Thanks,

Jos Hamminga
