Previous owner painted my jeep orange, I sanded the hood lightly without any luck, I did find some yellow remnants of numbers on driver side rear above the willys script, makes me believe may have belonged to the Marine Corps possibly. Thanks for sharing original hood numbers for 110267, makes me want to subtract the 98 unit difference and change my hood number to 2042220, but with my body number higher than yours, it makes little difference without that coveted original known number! Thanks for sharing!

There is no exact formula to distill the hood number from body- or chassis number, it all depends in what order the assembled jeeps were parked outside and if the painter started on the left- or right side of the row. If you can't physically recover the number from your hood the best you'll have is an educated guess.

In my case it could be anything plus or minus 20 from 2042318, but I already had the other number on my hood before that document showed up and it's in all the photos, so I'll just keep it even though it's about 2000 units off.

Or could have been a US Navy jeep. My '43 GPW still had its original blue drab factory registration numbers on the hood covered over by the USN registration numbers in yellow. The yellow USN registration number was still intact on the rear panel also with "54" painted above it.

Too many jeeps…and a Dodge.

Very well could be navy, no sign of ever having rifle rack installed on the windshield, it was drilled and setup for a fender blackout light, the holes were never reward. I wasn't aware navy painted yellow numbers on the rear panel, thanks for sharing your info!

My slattie 119696 has the same square, round combination, its Canadian contract CDLV242, all of those had the same, not sure when they stopped doing that though, anyone got any idea :?:

If it had a blackout bracket it was most likely the slightly wider 'tombstone' model. This bracket was retro-fitted to a batch of early vehicles (not just jeeps) that didn't get them at the factory. Our jeep had the holes too and those aligned perfectly for a tombstone bracket. The work order for the retro-fitting included a list of hood numbers and floats around on the site here somewhere.

MB II0247 d.o.d. 1/8/42 has a squared clutch pedal (with '639257' cast on the back) and a rounded brake pedal.
Mine is 12/16/42,serial number 196275,had two rounded pedals when I bought it.Were they correct?I put in 2001 a squared in the clutch.

Good question, we know the square pedal is correct for earlier slatgrills but I don't know when it changed over. There is a chance late slats like yours already had the rounded clutch pedal. Maybe some others with late slats can chime in on this?
