I have a Slat Grill. DOD is 18 December 1941.
My pintle hook has the following on it. Not sure which is the serial number.
Top has 1025-7
Bottom has 1070 and T-60-A
I don't see STEEL on it anywhere. Is mine original?

Picked this up at a swap meet, now all I need is a slatty to put it on.

I'm not sure if that hook is for a slat but the upper jaw probably is. Both parts were marked with 'steel' if I remember correctly?

Well, considering 2 other replies in this post have the same hook and markings, as does Jeep draw. I think it is for a slatty. Possibly an earlier one.

I recently found the pintle hook I pulled off of my wrecked ranch slat I bought in 1992, I had misplaced it for years. The markings are passenger side lower jaw STEEL and circle R, upper jaw T62. Driver's side markings are T60A lower jaw, circle R and small STEEL upper jaw. This jeep had no number plates at all when I bought it, just a gusset number of 5756, the best estimate we could come up with for a serial number and delivery date was MB 105785, delivered 12-23-41.

Okay, not really a description of the correct version of the pintle hook but a good story as to how I found mine.

I was at Hobo's place in GDR two years ago and there were seven or more jeeps all lined up getting ready to go on a cruise. I thought, what are the odds that there would be a "STEEL" pintle on any of these jeeps. I started eyeballing them and lo and behold on a GPW there in plain view was a "slatgrill" pintle on my friend Carsten's jeep. Now the big question is, how good a friend was he? :?

After some negotiating we agreed that I could provide him with the correct "F 'd" pintle as well as another STL for Lars (Hobo), I made the deal and we pulled it off his jeep. Success after over two years of searching for a proper one to fit my slat Jeep.

Interestingly enough, not long after that trip, Ron F. got a deal with a whole bunch of these STEEL and the STL's while on one of his sojourns. Go figure! The shipping costs that I endured to send the pintles that I had to Germany and the efforts to remove and replace them just could have easily have been done right from the G503 warehouse. Uhhh...

Oh well, it was a great trip to Germany and like a treasure hunt where you find buried treasure a trip totally worthwhile. As for fun waiting in line at the PO and enduring the stupid questions by the clerk as to what a pintle hook is and will it leak...well...thats another story for a later date.
