G503 Military Vehicle Message Forums

I am in the process of building a model RR layout (In On30 gauge if anyone knows about that kind of thing), which takes place in 1943. Needless to say, I had to change some stuff on these, such as putting non invasion-surround stars and removing ETO unit bumper markings. I created my own markings for a fictional RR operating Battalion.
That calls for very few civilian vehicles, but gives me a chance to have some Jeeps and such...
1/43 scale-



1/50 scale (for the backgrounds), as nobody makes an early closed-cab troop version of a GCCW in 1/48 or 1/43 scale yet-

Still, I think I went too far with the Command Car as well as the Jeeps. I based one Jeep on a photo I found from the TN Maneuvers in the same year (the layout takes place in the same state, but in the northeast corner of that state) where I think it'd driven into a deep mud puddle. It also gave me a good excuse to cover the invasion star with mud.
Yeah, they didn't wash MVs much back then, even stateside, but I don't think all these MVs would be terribly dirty for long as the 1st SGT would probably get some GIs to grab some buckets and go wash them off, especially the command car.
I also wished I could remove the shovel/axe from each of them, but those were molded into the bodies and it would have been a nightmare to remove them and accurately re-create the body indents underneath.
I might, however, remove the gas cans completely and make empty brackets out of sheet plastic someday...

If you are very good with your hands, a dremel will get rid of the tools.

Yeah, but it won't leave a scale representation of the body indents that should be underneath them like you'd find on a real 1:1 scale MB or GPW. I'm good, but not that good.
