A tribute to Gramp
Hello All,
Still new to the forum. I didn't see this section of the forum the first time looking through. I signed up to the forum, originally looking for information of Jeeps to help me with this project. I am making a diorama of my Grandfather in 1/48 scale mainly inspired from a collection of old photographs I came across after he passed last August.
The focal point of the project was to be from this picture of him leaning against a mangled wreck of a FW 190:
The project is morphing into adding other components. The first few pics Are a quick synopsis of the project, then to the jeep:
This what would be the back side of what is left over from the wreck.
The Base
the kits...
Starting to bash the kit...
Now the jeep....at least what I have started so far...
The Jeep I will attempt to copy...My Grandfather standing in front
The Bustle...
The foil will do nicely to simulate (to the best of my knowledge), the canvas top?
Dry fitting some items in the back.
Please feel free to add any comment and or questions, I am open to suggestions and changes as I go. I am not concerned about the engine as it is not seen. I am interested in the "small" things. Fire extinguisher location, tire hand pump location, grease gun and tools and/or tool boxes. These little things can bring a model to life. Obviously this is where I stand, gathering more information about the jeep itself as I had posted in http://www.g503.com/forums/viewtopic.ph ... 4#p1016294" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I will try to keep the questions regarding the jeep there and here I guess but the modeling photos here.
I thank you for putting up with the long winded 1st post....promise the next ones will be shorter.

Re: A tribute to Gramp
Thanks guys! The kind words are much appreciated!
Question!
In these two pics, shows the bracket for the roof. Is there another piece put into the bracket to support both arms or do they individually connect? I guess I am just looking for a clearer understanding of the actual workings of this piece.
Thanks for any help!

The top bows are riveted together and pivot at that point.

Thanks Ed! Those pics you sent are great! I am looking at my pic (gramp), the opening between his left arm and his waist.....I think I am making out what appears to be a bracket for the top. Not sure if it is actually attached or not. Strange it doesn't show up on the other side.....may be perspective.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

Thanks guys! Much appreciated.
Onward...
Replaced hood on light with scrap PE
Added some levers, pedals and gauge lights (two posts in the middle top of dash)
Brackets for the removable roof
Wire will be the vacuum line for the wipers on the windscreen
Raised the rear seat to it's upright position, added ribbing and a tire pump....
TBC...
Cheers!

Re: A tribute to Gramp
Added front bumper light and tried working on a couple of figures...Still wondering why I chose 1/48?? ???
Had to cut a few apart and mix and match to get close to the right pose...
I decided to use the guy sitting in the front of the jeep in my posted pic from earlier. Thought I could give him a camera, like he took the shot of the picture I am trying to recreate...
Added small case...
Started painting, this is were I realize how small they really are.
In looking at the picture (jeep pic) The man sitting has sun glasses. Not completely happy, but they will have to do...
Still a little touch up...
Basic "plot"...
As you can see, my Grandfather here looks more like the Joker from Batman. I need to fix something with the head....also, still working on ground cover, a ways to go. This will take a while!
Cheers!

Re: A tribute to Gramp
Hi Dave. Thank you! LOL! I thought about making something else a little larger....to add more details. Maybe a concept with the jeep not plane??? I will push up to 1/35 scale first.....after that, who knows? I have been messing around with figures lately (need a whole crew for my U-69) they come in finished around 1" at 1/72 scale. Time will tell...
Thanks again!

Been working on a lot of things lately, not much time to play. Mostly shoveling! Got to love winter!
Began some work on some peripherals.
Got rid of Gramps green hair too

A little update
If you look at the last couple of pics, you can see my matte finish mishap. In an effort to not pull out the airbrush, I went for the can. After test firing, I went to spray and got a nice peppering of white dots. still cleaning and touching up. Live-N-Learn! ;D ;D
Cheers!
