Troop carrier top canvas maintenance

Post by RockHillWill » Thu Nov 30, 2017 3:10 pm

We are getting ready to begin our project of converting an M998 originally outfitted as a troop carrier to an M1026. We just got it from GP and have removed the canvas top and bows and are going to fit them to an M1102 trailer. The dimensions match and the tie down straps are in the right locations. I checked the TM's and the bows have the same part number, so thought we would give it a try. We are going to mount the troop seats to the trailer and they will support the bows and they will support the canvas.

Question: While the top looks good from the outside, no holes or tears, when looking outside from the inside we are able to see some 'streaks' of sunlight in several areas. What might be recommended to treat either the inside or outside to prevent these areas from becoming more damaged or possiblt start to leak? Is there a particular sealant or treatment recommended for this? Thanks.
