Best material for hood repair?

Post by Kurt Lesser » Sat Oct 07, 2017 7:00 am

What are the best materials to do hood repairs? Interested in both fillers and adhesives.

Thanks

I don't know if it is the best or not, but I have repaired many damaged hoods and doors with regular fiberglass materials. I have never had to redo any of the repairs and some have been in use for years.

I concur with Epoxy resin systems from both a personal/hobby and professional perspective. Vinylester and Polyester systems just don't adhere! Use of Kevlar in the doors is a bit overkill, I typically use the tight woven cloth, which has greater structural density than the multi-directional mat and has always given me great strength in repairs on my HMMWV and previous marine repairs. Good surface prep, is always essential!

SMC repair kit. Same as what is used for semi truck hoods.
