Re: M1165 Build
Tub is off the shipping pallet and prepped for setting on frame. Just a few more small details before I gain a lot of shop floor!

Re: M1165 Build
Lots done this weekend.
Prepped all lines. Fuel tank vent line goes to filter up by air intake (as always). Fuel pump vent line goes to filler neck. Fuel tank filling vent lines go to filler neck via TEE with pump vent line.
Also, I change the vent line size from the Tcase (mp2225) to TEE by transmission. Supposed to keep atf from bleeding into vent system.
Still a lot of connections remaining. But the tub is set. A dressed tub is heavy. Safety first.
Tip: When installing a dressed tub on a frame, lift the rear of the tub up and come in at angle. This allows better clearance around engine. I done several this way and it works well.

Not for long George!
Got more work done. As always, lots of connections. Fun. Tires are coming off soon for access to rear condensers and engine sides. Then new tires/rims go on.

Re: M1165 Build
Had some time between snow storms, sub zero temps and trips. Mounted the rear condensers and set the fuel tank and piped it in. If you are going to do a right rear condenser, you must install that first before piping the fuel filler spout. Also, there are 3 reinforcement plates for the top of the rear fenders so that the bolts holding up the condensers do not pull through the aluminum. Not in TM that I can find. So I made them off of originals. I'll get pix of them later.
I placed the rear diff cooling line hose connections in the correct spot! I would hate to change them now.

I appreciate the details, thanks for sharing. I'm new to Humvees, but not to building and restorations. Your work is exemplary, and VERY impressive.

Re: M1165 Build
Thanks. Just another day in my delirious state! This is such a challenge to assemble for you have to figure out the order, else you do it over.
Here are the reinforcement parts for the rear condensers. Easy to make, there are 3 of them. The light green items.

Re: M1165 Build
Here are catch up pictures for ogling! Enjoy.
The upper closeout (cheese grater) and rubber piece is a challenge to install. Lots of things need to be lined up and done before hand. Keep the cheese grater loose from inner roof to allow alignment. The foam closeout for a and c pillar are cheesy. You push them into place and hold them there with a plate and 2 screws. I do not know how water stays out of the door area. Very strange. The b pillar armor bracket needs to be adjusted during the setting of the b pillar armor and the rocker armor. Again tight fit.
There is not much room around the master cylinder area as well as the ac manifold area. Tight quarters.
Next up is rear under belly plates, windshield assembly and then front belly plates. Passenger side plate needs to go in BEFORE commanders floor padding and heating/cooling unit.

Re: M1165 Build
Been away so progress has been slow. However I did get a chance to figure out the glass install and brackets. The 1165 type truck require the glass, the rubber gasket (same for DOT thin glass), armor retainer brackets and then surround armor. No need for bezels for the armor brackets are in replacement of bezels (M1114 and early 11xx). All the extra metal around the front l&r sides need to be loose while everything is set.
Enjoy the pictures.

Re: M1165 Build
Also, there are retainers under the glass bolted to the A-beam, like civi H1's.
Next up is the deflector plate and rocker protection.

Re: M1165 Build
Thanks for the updates Ted. Any tips on how you lifted those heavy awkward windshields in place?

Re: M1165 Build
Lifted with my back and twisted as I lift! hahaha I made a wood platform to stand on. I also made a wood deck on top of engine area (you can see part of it in the pictures). Placed the glass on foam padding on the wood deck and then tilted into place. I had within reach a putty knife, rubber mallet, wrenches, and the armor bezels with bolts. One hand on glass until it was held in place. These are heavy! Dropping would result in injury to you and your wallet. lol

Re: M1165 Build
Set the lower plate and upper valence on roof. Behind each bolt is a rubber washer for the lower plate. They allow the lower plate to sit away from all the a-beam rivets. The 1/2-20 bolt on drivers side does not get a large washer. Book shows that and all my used plates show that. Very strange. Also, you have to set this lower plate and bolt it through the A-beam to the inside foot well plate at the same time. All front right foot well plating and padding needs to be set prior to setting ac/heater unit. Crazy design.
