REV geared hub vs. ECV geared hub
I may need a geared hub for a 12k (1114?) chassis and was offered what sounds like a geared hub from a REV at a very good price. TM says they are different part numbers, can anyone tell me how they are different and if I can use one of these >30000 part number hubs with the other (3) <299999 part number hubs.

Re: REV geared hub vs. ECV geared hub
From what I found...
TM9-2320-387-24p
Fig 113
Fig 119
both hubs front and back are 6009352, 2530-01-413-3653....used on : M1113, 1114, 1151, 1152, and the earlier A2's
On TB 2320-335-13&p, hubs used are :
Part number 6041986, 2530-01-562-8935 used on : M1151A1, 1152A1, 1165A1, 1167
I can't find a difference.

I think the REV has angle cut gears instead of the normal straight cut ones.

Re: REV geared hub vs. ECV geared hub
Helical is less noisy like libbster said, and has less backlash (i.e. less rocking when you stop). They tend to wear faster than straight cut gears (smaller contact area -> higher bearing stress), and load the support bearings in the axial direction because of the angled geometry.
I found the following thread when I was doing some searching on upgrading my hubs.

Re: REV geared hub vs. ECV geared hub
Good info, helical cut gears are quieter, less rocking, makes sense why AM General would add that to the Alpha. But there is a side load on the bearings under torque, that makes sense too, although it is likely negligable.
So with the MV trucks, are 12.1k hubs helical cut or straight? It there are helical, what is the difference with a REV hub since 12.1k are helical anyway?

Re: REV geared hub vs. ECV geared hub
The 12.1 K hubs are not angle cut gears. Actually the driven gear is the same as the 10.3k hubs. It's the top gear that gets changed, because of the larger splined hole for the larger half shaft. You can buy the 12.1 K drive gear, bearings and races and install them into 10.3 hubs. You need to pull the spindle to let the driven gear drop so you can swap the drive gear with the bearings and races. There is a little washer that is on the outside of the drive gear and needs to be trapped in place when it is installed. It is different than the 10.3 washer. While you are doing this, you can install the late type spindle nut and star washer thingie.

Re: REV geared hub vs. ECV geared hub
There are two 12.1 gearsets out there, straight cut and helical, with the REV being the helical one.So with the MV trucks, are 12.1k hubs helical cut or straight? It there are helical, what is the difference with a REV hub since 12.1k are helical anyway?
12.1k straight cut gear

and
12.1k helical gear

As far as I know the lower 10.3k gear and the 12.1k straight cut gears are one and the same, people have upgraded their hubs from 10.3k to 12.1k by simply switching out the upper pinion. The 12.1k pinions have a larger holes to receive the bigger splined 12.1k driveshafts, everything else is the same.
interestingly enough there is something called a "reduced noise" straight cut 10.3k gearset too, I assume with better tolerances (mesh)

Re: REV geared hub vs. ECV geared hub
If you compare parts numbers between Hummer H1 10.3K and 12.1K hub parts you'll find the differences. Alpha hubs have the different gears and REV might have the Alpha type or the 12.1K depending on what serial number the switch was done.

Re: REV geared hub vs. ECV geared hub
I just got a geared hub from Austin, it is 12k And has the newer helical gears, not straight. I have noticed on all the trucks at the base that they all have ctis hubs...just no ctis. Personally....I would rather not have the ctis hubs just due to more complexity...I mean, why have extra seals and parts that serve no function. I did notice that the spindle nut I removed was nothing I had ever seen, it was nothing like my clamp nut on my 98 wagon....it's the same concept, its a clamp nut but just a lot bigger then what I have seen...

I'll open mine up tomorrow and take a look, maybe they are helical too?

Yes, My hubs came with a screw in the outer hole and a shield bolted to the other side that would protect hoses if installed..metalman wrote:Does the REV have CTIS hubs?
