Re: Restoring WC12 W-231808
Very tacky after 2 hours, that's good though. Chased the screw holes using a same sized screw(glad I did that)and verified that the pick up tube is free. It seems ridiculous to rotate the tank for 30 minutes to get it coated, and then to drain it for 30 minutes, but that stuff runs like molasses (or mole's asses) in the winter , so if you don't drain it properly it will have a huge blob of a build up and not cure properly.

Wwooaaaaawww OZ great reading these thread.
You are quicker than me,
I have my dodge engine on YouTube first start yesterday its a 1942 flathead dodge for the WC51 fire truck trooper in UK airfield not in France. The dodge was built as a fire truck WC51 troopers during the war in UK airfield for 2 months untill the war was over and it was sent to France for 10 years and then sent to Australia.
The engine I bought that's on YouTube first start I bought few days ago next weekend will start stripping a part and clean it up and paint it and put it back together for mid this year will put it in the 1945 WC51 Fire truck dodge.
The White engine you see in the back ground is a T214 1944 for the WC dodge, I have the information when it's was last running, the last run was in 1946 so it's waiting on gasket from Texas and his first start in 72 years looking forward to that and will post videos as well.
I have about 9 flathead dodge engine for WC dodge.
Here my video on YouTube

Well that certainly was an enjoyable video to watch. I am not sure when mine was last run, but congratulations on getting your engine to turn over after so long. It is a testament to the durability of the construction. I have decided to get the cab prepared and mounted, and then I will fill with oil, fuel and water and giver her a try.
Today I finally connected the oil filter outlet fitting to the engine. I have messed with that too long, and in the mean while, you have your motor running.

Peter- go to http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/
Upload your pictures to an account you make. You then simply cut from that site, then paste onto this one. It's the same as you did for your YouTube videos...

Re: Restoring WC12 W-231808
I have begun to pack for my move to TN eventually. Planning on getting the home on the market soon, so there is scant time to work on the WC. Here is the progress for today. Fuel tank installed with line connected and gauge inserted. I added a bit of e-tape to the tank strap to minimize abrasion to the metal tank. I am not very pleased with how the exterior turned out, but with the sealer kit I am hoping it will be a solid tank for many years.
I also received my stand-in linkage for the throttle bracket on the manifold. I need to research how to hook it up. I also turned the governor around and she sits correctly now.
Finally I placed my sub frame in place to see how the fit looks. Time to source the hardware.

Re: Restoring WC12 W-231808
What is the factory method of treating the wood sub frame and what is the preferred standard today for preservation and looks?

Re: Restoring WC12 W-231808
Oz- good luck with your move to TN! I sure do miss parts of NM (Magdalena and Socorro) and the PNW- but home is the Southeast; humidity and all
I thought of you last night- the wiring on my WC52 was fully intact at the heart, but the ends were cut, frayed, and frail. Knowing that paying $850 for a new harness could be put toward a .50cal, I started unraveling the tape of the lower harness.
The wiring was absolutely flawless. The color was fresh, non faded, and immensely pliable. The engine wiring was the same. I may take on the project of ordering 2ft pieces that match, then splice them onto the original wires. Not sure I'll save much money that way, but we'll see...

Re: Restoring WC12 W-231808
Between packing the excess to get the house on the market, I spent some time on the sub frame and running board support.
Since this was a frame from a different 1/2 ton, one of the running boards was places forward. I removed the rivet and attached the support in the proper place for the WC12.
I secured the two longitudinal beams and the four cross beams with 1/2" galvanized carriage bolts, lock washers, nuts and washers. I then used the 90 degree mounting plates as a template to drill the four holes to attach 5/16" bolts, lock washers and nuts. I also mounted the two tail light brackets and dry fitted the two lights.
I still need to attach the aft lateral support. I was not quite sure on placement, but from what I can tell it goes all the way back, flush with the ends of the longitudinal beams. and centered.
