Installed a very nice new hand brake adjustment screw and safety wired it in place. I installed the short shaft with new clips and screws. I also hooked up the linkage for the front wheel drive handle.

Getting ready to install the radiator. I used my body hammers and dollies and cleaned up the rest of the dents in the cap. Some of the grill guards were bent, so I took the time to fix those also. Two of the vertical bars I just could not get perfect. I certainly know why many of you send out your large parts to be sand blasted. This is about 3 1/2 hours of work and 300 lbs of sand. It sure will look nice with early OD when I get it attached to the front with the radiator installed. Can't wait.

I also did the window frame, so that is almost ready for glass. Cost about $30 with one nozzle, but I sure hate the large jobs. Not looking forward to the cab and body panels.

Installed the grill and the radiator this afternoon. 'bout 2 hours. It's a bit difficult by yourself with only two hands, so you have to use some props and a shoulder to press things in while you hold and balance with one hand and thread in a bolt with the other.

The VMV radiator pipe, as Zeph posted, is a bit too long. I cut off 1" off each end being careful not to cut too close to where the pipe begins to bend otherwise you can't get a good seal with the hose on a bend. As it is, one could probably shave an inch off the bottom hose to prevent the gap. It should not proved problematic as the sturdy hose clamp is fully seated on a straight section of pipe and hose. Installing the hose clamp on the lower end of the lower hose took some thought (probably more needed) in order to make sure you can get at the screw once all the panels are installed. I may move it around , but for now the access to the screw if from the bottom forward position.

Its finally starting to look like a truck and getting closer to having all of the components ready for a start.

Looking superb Oz,your way ahead of me now,i was going back through your posts looking for the transfer case strip down, and spotted where you where about to tear down the engine,i spotted that you had 2 studs on your side valve cover not the one i said,so the 2 inners should be wing bolts and the 2 outer ones should be studs and nuts..check it out.
Finally fixed what batmobile thankfully pointed out before I attempted to install the manifold. Of course, given a 50/50 change of putting them on correctly, I failed  As i went to make a post, i did it backwards. Lyxdexia sucks...you know, left, right... north, south...inside outside...underneath, overneath

Tackled the fuel tank today. I spent an hour hand scraping the gunk from the inside. Both baffles are out as one was loose and the other almost loose. I used a flexible putty scraper and removed most of the deposit and what looked like the results of a failed tank liner. :o About 2 lbs of these chunks on one end of the tank.

I lightly blasted the interior and exterior and the tank mounting straps. The pick up tube looks fine, but the tank drain is totally stripped. There was a auxiliary screw hole with rubber washer drain installed. Perhaps I can use that hole to supplant a new drain. RESEARCH. There are two pin holes. I wil weld those up, fab some baffles, weld them in, manufacture a lid with fuel gauge orifice and then paint. First try at this so wish me luck :?

Here is the progress so far...I left the to-be-welded areas clean.

Collected my manifold from the machine shop. They installed the new heat riser, mated everything together and machined a nice flat surface to seal. Will figure out the paint details on Friday. Recommendations accepted. 8)

Zeph poste on his CC thread "I also cut a little extra off of the top radiator hose. After I installed the radiator, I could tell that I may need some extra wiggle room for alignment. The top hose looked like it could be an issue if I needed to tilt the whole arrangement rearward."

I'll need to pay attention to that in case I cannot get the hood aligned with the cowl. :?

No,but most spray paint does not hold up.I liked the idea of a brush/rub on application that can be touched up.

That natural cast color does look nice. Perhaps paint on intake, this on exhaust?

About 12 years back I used a spray paint that was ( if I remember correctly ) called
Nu Cast for cast iron exhaust manifolds , seems to me I purchased it at a Car Quest
parts store , the motor was a flathead six in a forklift so it got the sh%t ran out of it
plus it was parked outside on the west coast at night , the paint lasted for about a year
before I could see small rust spots start to show up . Not sure if it was VHT Nu Cast or not .
The color had a nice flat color , very close to factory cast . As an experiment I put the
assembled intake / exhaust in a oven and warmed it up to about 80 deg. F. then took it
out , let cool a little before painting , worked really good for me .

Ive used VHT paint on my Harley WLA exhaust and hasn't shown any signs of rust after about 3 years, still going strong .

Also the paint company that matched my engine paint supplied that in heat resistant paint,i would use the engine colour on my intake, and VHT on the exhaust.

Glad you got your side valve cover studs in the right place. :D
