EBAY repro parts scam alert

Post by smurf » Wed Jun 08, 2011 9:47 am

for several months a Canadian based seller (ford_willys) on ebay has been selling new reproduction parts as used original ones, and ebay has done nothing to stop this practice. When asked about this the seller has claimed he "had no idea' where the parts had come from or what their history is-even though he is a distributor of reproduction jeep parts! He sells things like mirrors/mounts and F marked shovel brackets, and everything he sells is a cheap repro part even when he claims they are "used" or 'original'. Always be cautious when it says "what you see is what you get" , as in this case it's hard to tell the quality/history from his photos,
and his descriptions are always very minimal in hopes that you'll assume the parts are genuine.

This seller is not the only one that does that. There is a G member on here that when blasted about an item he posted for sale here, was told outright it is not original WW2, he turns around and lists it to Ebay as "correct", knowing full well that is not so. WHY, besides greed, do people want to do this ??? I bought a "NOS" grease gun bracket from a fellow, now I am unsure if it is "NOS" or a New Old Stock REPRODUCTION. The repro's are getting good and with a little age, we better watch out.

Chuck: He gave the name in brackets. Do an "advanced" search by seller on Ebay. Type in ford willy
That was the name he posted (ford willy)

I would assume it is this seller: ford_willys

On the left side under the seller's silhouette, you can click on Items for sale.

He has listed more parts today. I would bet no fees where paid to FORD for the right to reproduce there logo on these crappy made parts, Someone needs to report this to FORD, Maybe a law suit will stop it. I hate to see novice restorers getting ripped on this junk.

Those mirrors are crappy. I wonder if he's selling any? No Gee member should buy them, as they should know better!

now this scumbag is selling repro F marked pintle hooks made in India, he's based in Ontario Canada BTW. you'll note under "condition" he leaves it blank even though he knows the stuff is new repro, he just hopes you're gullible enough to think they are NOS or used originals. I sure wish Ebay would make a hard and fast rule that if you are selling a repro part it HAS to be described that way and if you are calling it "used" it still needs to be clear what it's origin is if it's a repro part and you are a dealer like this guy is.

Thanks very much for the warning. I would not know how to tell the indian ones. Any dead giveaways on that and the mirrors you can educate us with?

Rodney,

The give away on the mirrors this seller is offering has the word Ford in the oval which WW2 ones didn't have. Reproduction parts are fine in most cases but to get "correct" types it is best to go to a reputable dealer such as Ron Fistzpatrick who runs this great site.
