It might be better if the thread was moved to the 'Other MV's, Non U.S. Manufacture', instead of the 'M201, Hotchkiss, Quarter-ton jeep®' forum.

It's a late 1970's VW 181 made to look like a Kübelwagen. Nice try.

I met a German guy living in Denmark years ago that had done the same, but he had tweaked the bodywork to look more like the WW2 era one. He had added several original Kübel parts, rear light, Notek light, instruments, etc etc

I wish I had some photographs but I don't, unfortunately.

I am surprised not more people are trying their hands in producing really good copies of the Kübelwagen. It's not that complicated a vehicle and I suppose one can use early 1950's VW pans, engines/gearbox, to build it on.

Rommel:

The right place to discuss your Kübelwagen Project is www.vw166.com

You need to get registered there, the owner of the forum ist Bart.

I have registered to that forum some weeks ago and already got lots of infos about Kübelwagen. Due to the small quantity of existing Kübelwagen the forum is by far not as frequented as the g503.com forum.

Lehar will ship overseas, I have received parts from him previously, his work is outstanding, I would not buy a kooble car, convert a VW thing etc. Most of the Kubels out there have original, and reproduction parts, most have some 40/50' era VW parts, front ends etc, 35HP engines, etc. I have owned two over the years, a 43 and a 44 Kubel, for the money you can buy a great kit from Lehar and make a proper Kubel, not a crappy one, plus he has the proper wheels and tyres, not the big ones that someone else supplies. At the end of the day, your kooble car is worth what it is jack, but the reproduction body parts are just that, you have a reproduction based on original specs, if you add original parts, or an original frame, which you can still find, even 40's era frames are available you have something worth more than the others.

I agree with Issah that Lehar is the best way to go, It's strange, at least I think so, that Kooblecar opted not to build a faithful replica, but a not-always-good approximation. It has a value to someone who's willing to pay the price a seller wants for it, but its not a collectable in any way.

And if you build a Kübelwagen out of Lehar body- and other parts on a wartime Kübelwagen frame (and they are available in Europe), you'll end up with a faithful replica of the original. Don't forget that in the world of wartime aircraft restoration (to flying status) very little of the original fuselage and wings are used in the final aircraft. Some figures quotes that as little as 10% can be left of one of these fighter aircraft found in Russia.

Lehar is a company in the Czech republic that have been restoring WW2 German vehicles, mainly the Kübel- and the Schwimmwagen, for years. They manufacture a whole range of spare parts, body parts, etc. You can build a complete Kübelwagen or Schwimmwagen from scratch if you have an original VW frame to work with. I don't think they do frames, yet.

A complete body kit from Lehar:
