(Sold--pending) 1944 Willy’s MB

Post by wc56daveyboy » Sun Dec 10, 2017 10:31 am

I've taken a substantial down payment on the MB. So technically it's sold
Thanks to all who looked

Putting up for sale my recently restored 1944 Willy’s MB. all work completed within the last year or so.

This is a complete, fully running and driving, titled jeep.

Originally a California jeep (still have the 66 dated license plates to show)
When I tore this down, I found a mix of parts, both MB and GPW. So this MB went thru a depot rebuild at one time. Many “F” parts on this besides just bolts, including the transfer case, one front fender, hood, grill, grab handles etc. has GPW rear tool box lids. I found marine Corp markings on the hood.

Here is what was done:

Complete removal and cleaning of body. full paint job after thorough cleaning using rust resistant primer and Gilespee OD paint.
This is an original tub, not a repro. Factory stamped tub numbers on tub gusset.
Everything is solid metal. Rear tool boxes, floors, hat channels, everything is original steel.
Front fenders, grill, hood, wind shield and other various parts got taken to a sandblaster.
All these parts are also original ww2 parts, not re-pop stuff.
FULL cleaning and inspection of the front and rear axle assemblies, bearings and seals backing plates, springs, etc addressed at this time
FULL 100% brake job including new shoes, cylinders, springs, master cylinder, flex lines and metal brake lines.
FULL 100% fuel system, including all new steel lines, relined and coated ORIGINAL gas tank, fire wall mounted fuel filter, new fuel pump, etc.
FULL 100% professional T84 transmission rebuild (have receipts and warranty of course)
Transfer case was torn down and inspected and revealed a not too long ago rebuild. All components perfect inside. Replaced seals and adjusted as needed.
COMPLETE clutch job, including new pressure plate, disk and T/O bearing, and had the flywheel resurfaced at this time.
ENGINE: rebuilt post war L-134, though I don’t have any records for that.
It runs super, strong, no weird noises or knocks, no smoke (blue or white or anything)
Industrial head was loose when I got it, so I replaced head gasket. I inspected cylinder walls and valves at this time and determined this was indeed a fresh rebuild. I have pics to show this.
New distro cap, internals, spark plugs, wires, coil etc.

ALL universal joints replaced.
Complete exhaust system with flex pipe as per original.
Steering gear adjusted and cleaned. Steering wheel nice.
All rubber bushings, engine mounts, transmission and transfer case rubber insulators and snubbers purchased and installed during rebuild.
All four brand new original style shocks and bushings.
Both front springs replaced with new springs
New transmission and transfer shift boots, shift knobs, etc
New windshield glass panes cut and installed, along with rubber seals, both cowl and inner windshield frame rubber. Both inner and outer windshield metal is original.
Installed new E-brake shoe on e-brake drum and bought an e-brake assembly.
Original type Carter carb, cleaned, rebuilt and installed
Has original ww2 air cleaner assembly in excellent condition, cross over tubes, hoses, clamps, horn, etc.
Purchased and Installed 4 brand new 600-16 NDT tires on the non-combat rims. All four tires are the same size and manufacturer. Spare is an original NDT, again on a non combat rim.
Front gussets and bumper were there, and solid, but due to previous owner welding on a humungous tow hitch, he welded enough to mess up the top gussets and bumper.
I decided to buy a replacement bumper and replace the top two gussets at that time to be perfect. Wood bumper insert there as well.
Found and purchased a number of original missing parts, like grab handles, bumperettes, spare tire carrier, pintle hook, etc
I purchased what I believe MAY be original NOS front seat frames. Either way they were unused and perfect.
ORIGINAL Rear seat frame was there and after sand blasting, I covered with an older canvas seat cushion. Usable canvas, but not perfect.
Both front canvas seats and cushions installed, lightly used canvas in excellent shape
Purchased a complete reproduction top bow set with all brackets for canvas top.
Have canvas summer top, well used, but its there. I stumbled upon this and got in a trade so its part of the deal. Original NOS rear taillight assemblies in 12v purchased and installed.

I am sure I am missing a whole bunch of little stuff I forgot about.
all of the hard work and major components have been addressed.

Some POINTS:

- Has minimal wiring at this time to run headlights and brake lights. NOT a full harness, but I did use original style and size and type cloth wiring.
Original rotary light switch. Original NOS set of rear taillight buckets
If you want to go further, Just add to what I already did if you want the accessories like black out lights and trailer socket, etc to work.
have fender mounted BO light, non working. trailer socket there but not wired up.
-running 12 volt system with modern alternator
-Summer top has a tear in the upper rear left side requiring stitching.
- Engine is an excellent running rebuilt unit, but its post war.
-NO combat rims.
-Dash has a few un-determined holes. I left them, as I didn’t know what they went to or were used for at the time. Some may still be required, some may need to be welded up. Don’t know.
I left any small dings, no filler. No dings larger than say a quarter in size. Small pinholes in two places but it's rock solid metal everywhere. there are some scratches, and dirt, I live on county dirt roads.
-gauges- some are original, some not. Only oil pressure and temp gauge hooked up and working at this time, but ALL gauge holes are filled with a gauge of some make..

that’s about as honest of a description as I can give.

I welcome any questions from serious buyers. I have a full set of receipts of parts purchased (Unless bought at MV swap meets, ebay sales, or private sales, but I did record my purchases and list prices I paid) as well as a number of photos taken during the rebuild process.

I am asking $13,499 for this excellent running, fully rebuilt drive train, original bodied MB. I have seen similar examples like mine, with reproduction bodies and T-90 transmissions with post war engines sell for more than I’m asking.

Call me, lets talk if your interested, Serious offers will of course be considered.

Located in South East Oklahoma, about 3 hours north of Dallas, or about the same from Oklahoma city.
Clean Oklahoma title in my name.
Call or text me, serious buyers only. 214-733-3741

and a few more. notice the extremely clean original body. NO rework was required. tool boxes solid original metal, as it the hat sections, floors, etc.

notice "F transfer case.

notice the Marine corps yellow lettering as found on the hood..

NO Marine lifting hooks or frame mounted rings, so not sure about this hood. again, its my suspicion this went thru a depot rebuild and who knows how the marine corp hood got on there, as the mix of GPW and MB parts.

Nice detailed pictures and thorough description. We do not see this much info on most for sale jeeps. And a reasonable price. With pics and description a person would know exactly what they are buying. I am not used to seeing for sale ads like that. Thanks

Thank you all.

Like that 10,000 word novel? My wife laughed at me when she read it.. ha!!

Well having been "burnt" enough times I know how it feels being cheater, lied to or otherwise deceived in buying something long distance/and or by photos alone.

I can't tell you how many "vague" descriptions of what was done (or not in most cases) because the owner was deceptive hiding the real condition.

I don't like the feeling, and I don't like being that person back. And won't. I'm too honest I guess.

What I wrote and described is exactly what i am selling. It's what I know about it because I did all this work to know...

If there are any questions after that description, I can't imagine that many left to answer!!

Anyway, it's a good solid jeep as described.

Dave,
I wish you the best on the sale. Excellent and detailed images and description of the sale. You have gone above and beyond the standard two pics and a price in your ad. Commendable! Knowing your integrity and your past work, anyone would be happy with this MV in their possession.

Do you have a serial number and / or date of delivery? The tub dates to Oct 1944. Both the tubs I have in that range are listed as 10/x/1944 so I can't narrow it down further.

Seth:

Yes I do.. sort of. The serial number tag on the frame was partially destroyed by weld / heat.

I was able to read 3x6447.

yes. all research on line shows the tub being a Oct 44 date, thats why I am listing as a 44 MB.
