Hi Allen - may not be much comfort but your jeep would make 9K over here(in UK) no problem - and that would be GB pounds not Dollars.

regards Barrie
Maybe true but it's not in the U.K. so that really doesn't matter, does it?

Your GPW serial number is very close to my '43 GPW. I wouldn't mind seeing this in person but not sure if that's a possibility.

Can you post some information on the engine? It looks like it has a CJ or M-38 head installed.

It was worth tops 2-3k when you found it and about the same now.

No offense to your work, but you didn't save anyone any time or money on a true restoration of the machine.

All that paint will be blasted back off, all those fluids will be drained so all the mechanicals can be drained, opened and checked.

Any body work you did will likely have to be re-done after it's all blasted off. Any body work you didn't do (like fixing the front frame horns and replacing the fuel tank sump well under the driver's seat will have to be tackled. Thanks will be noted for the tires, but she needs 2-piece combat wheels to truly be correct & even repros of those are around $250 each (x5). There are parts seen that are incorrect and PLENTY of parts missing. Again, a true restoration will go back to 6v....but there are plenty of 12v jeeps, so maybe that part of your work is favorable.

well Crimp One Off, might as well stick it back in the junk yard eh.

I would like to chime in here if I may.

I have seen this jeep in person. I also recently met and now know Allen.
He and his wife are nice folks. And as he may or may not mentioned , this is his first jeep or MV ever owned, so he is a newbie in this hobby. Driven in, ridden in many I am sure in his tours of the Middle East, just his first mv owned that Uncle Sam didn't buy for him ( thanks for your service Allen)

So let me start off giving what I have seen of this jeep.

this is a runnning jeep.
The body is pretty nice but needs some hat channel work.

As far as body work he meticulously sanded down and removed all traces of flaking paint so that's been done.

In my estimation a running jeep is worth more than 2k any day of the week as one posted said.
Where will you find a RUNNING 43 GPW In this condition for 2-3k?

lets see how many come up for sale like that.. I haven't seen many, so I think it unfair value of 2-3k placed on this without seeing it

Is the motor a ww2 engine? Don't know, but it runs nice.

Yes it will need a lot more work to be one of them show jeeps but not all of us want trailer queens, or wish for factory class rugs.

How about the re-enactors needing a good looking TRUE ww2 jeep to play the part? One that can be used without fear of another dent or
Mud in the underside?

This is a perfect jeep for that role.

I too beleive 9k is up there and is on the high side for sure.

But.. maybe an interested party should contact the seller and work something out??

In any case, it's a great base for another saved ww2 jeep.

Not trying to be mean. Just trying to save you from putting too much more effort into something that will have to be completely gone through by the buyer. When I started my first GPW, I got quite a shock. All the details and fabrication. This is coming from someone who did body work and restorations all the time. I have welders, plasma cutters, sheet metal brakes and numerous other tools at my disposal and still realized it was a lot of work to get it as close to "correct".

Yeah no problem, I get it, at that point I'd just keep it and drive it, take it back with us to Mojave, have some fun with it. // #DesertRat

No, you shouldn't just stick it back in the yard. Yes, the board auto censors certain words and phrases. Yes, the moderators monitor the board, yes people get put on vacation when they act up too much. IF you stick around, you'll get used to it. The guy/company that provides the board is also a top-notch vendor (truth in advertising, one of several, but mine and many other folks' go-to guy for parts).

My valuation may have been a little on the low side. Point is your valuation is a lot high. The market is inflated by eBay and the folks on the other side of the pond and the true number of the value of the jeep in question is in the middle of the two, and whatever you and the buyer agree to.

It also, as Dave points out, depends on what the buyer wants to do with it. It's a whole lot closer to a "finished" reenactor jeep than it is a "factory class" restoration, and if the whole engine is CJ, than "factory class" is out of the cards anyway, as the omission of the numbers matching engine from the equation would cost the owner big-time in points at judging. "motorpool class" is a very real possibility, but again with a gob more money and time.
