I've seen many of these parts. This stuff is first rate stuff. Yeah, I know...everybody says that. Dave has been buying and selling parts on and off the Gee for many many years, and has saved the best stuff for his own pile of projects. This stuff is that saved stash and is very probably the best on the market today.

Hi Dave,

For a VEP GPW, I'm looking for a LH front 8 leaf spring pack, a set of early U shackles and bushes with press fit zerks, a F script rear 9 leaf spring U bolt and an early GPW bell housing without the handbrake cable clip boss (Prefer without a hole but would still be happy if it did).

Oh and a GPW front left spring plate, not sure of its proper name, the bit that sits under the front spring and has 2 sets of holes at slightly different distances for the U bolts.

Regards, Chris.

I do not think I've ever seen a Front LEFT shock plate F-marked. That part was omitted for the Torque Reaction spring and is probably one very rare item. I had one, but it was likely post-war CJ.

I was being nice Lt. Luke. He has a VEP GPW without the TR spring assembly. So he would need that plate, but I will advise him to go to the TR spring.

It's the same as the right rear if you don't have the torque reaction spring.

I'm almost certain only vep MBs had no hole at all. Vep GPWs did have a hole but no boss.

Made a mistake gents, it's the front right plate I think I need, the odd one with the wider holes for the bigger U bolt. The one on mine was a rear left that someone had used a gas axe to elongate the holes. I purchased a repro but it's much bigger and heavier and I didn't like it. I've since welded up the holes on the original to redrill in the correct place but not sure if the size of the plate is the size of the repro or if it should be the same size as the other 3?

I've seen 2 F script bell housing in Europe with out the hole, I assume those with a tapped hole are due to a field mod to drill and tap a hole in the original housing. Those VEPs in Europe at the time were most likely under British Army control and not subject to the same Mod process.

I'm not saying you are incorrect. There may have been F script bellhousings without a hole, however I went through a search for what you are looking for, asking questions regarding this to this forum and talked to many people who have been dealing with g503 items for much of their lives, and I couldn't find any evidence one existed. I did find several that appeared to not have no hole but turned out to either be plugged with years of grease and dirt or the bolt broke off flush.

If you do end up coming across one PLEASE post some photos.

I need a late war skid plate for a 45 MB. Also do you have a set of Data plates for a late 44/early 45 MB?

How can you tell an MB oil pan from a postwar variety? I think I have a couple in my garage.
