SPF Restored 1942 Ford GPW $17,500

Post by johnseidts » Thu Mar 23, 2017 11:45 am

SOLD PENDING FUNDS! 1942 Ford GPW. As you can see, this GPW is well-restored but the work is about 13 years old. It has been well-stored and used monthly for re-enactments and living
history events. The restoration was frame-off. Repairs included a front frame section repair and extensive body work on an original tub. The work was done by a good country mechanic who had a real passion for WWII vehicles. The body had some blemishes which were kept to leave it as original as possible. When I inspected it, it started first turn after sitting for over a month. It went to a near-perfect smooth idle and maintained 30 lbs oil pressure during about 10 minutes of operation. The test drive was notable because although a bit difficult to engage low range on the transfer case, the four wheel drive operated flawlessly. There was no excessive drive-line lash or play and I was very impressed as that has rarely been found in most vehicles. Frame and original data plate match title, but the engine is a later war GPW serial number.

Other flaws noted- some minor corrosion around various parts/pieces which is visible in photographs. Note checking on tires.

This vehicle is available for viewing with advanced notice. Wednesday-Friday 0930-1330 hours is best. It is located in South Central PA near Lancaster PA. Price $17,500. Clear PA title. PM for more information.

Terms:

1. If you wish to make a purchase based on what you see here- post "I want it" here on the thread and you will receive priority over any PM's.

2. $500.00 non-refundable deposit due within 48 hours via paypal after you commit to purchase it. Balance due within 7 days after deposit or pick-up, whichever comes first.

3. Free storage is available for 60 days after purchase, but you are responsible for insuring the vehicle against loss, theft, or damage. After 60 days, you must make arrangements for paid storage.

The GPW is still available. I am available next week Wednesday through Friday in the AM and early afternoon to show it and drive it- 0930-1330. Twist my arm- it's a real pleasure to drive. I'm going to miss having it to show to people!

I'm still curious if you know Dave Curtin. I bought my GPW from him in August 2013 and met him at Smoketown Airport (at his brother-in-law's hanger?) during a small fly-in before he delivered the jeep to my house. From your pictures, it looks like these were taken there. Let me know, I'd love to send him a picture of my completed resto.

In regard to the quality of the restoration of this jeep, if this is the one I've seen before, I can personally say that it's a very solid restoration and your asking price is a really good deal for what is being offered.
