SLAT GRILL WILLYS FACTORY TOOL KIT JACK QUESTION?

Post by Christophe Chevalet » Sat Oct 28, 2017 7:41 am

Hello Gmenber's
I have another question regarding the jack for the Slat grill Willys factory tool kit?
Which one it is? Because if you look this original picture is a bottle jack with handle.
If you read the book of Lloyd white is the classic screw jack...
I would like to have your opinion on this question.
Thanks in advance
Christophe

Photos look nice but the BOM tells the story.

A little hard to read but that is an A-1240

Hello Mark
Thanks for to have published this BOM.
Of course, I know this Willys BOM published the 9/8/41.
But if you look with attention his picture you can see some typical detail from 1941.
Look the water and fuel can and flexible nozzle are from early 1941.
Why they put on this picture this type of jack and handle instead of the screw jack A-1240?
I will keep my eye open for screw jack A-1240 to complete my Willys factory tool kit.
Thanks Mark

We'll never fully know why, of course, Christophe. Perhaps there was a Dodge parked next to the Willys when they the photograph that was used for this illustration rendering was taken. But it is a mistake. The jack is identified as an A-1240 in several documents, not only the first BOM. They can't all be consistently wrong, and one figure right. And if you need even more confirmation, consider that not even the QUAD or MA took a bottle jack.

Hello Wingnutt
Thanks for this confirmation.
I didn't know Quad and MA jeep got an screw jack to...
Now I will keep my eyes open for a screw jack and sell my nice NOS bottle jack and handle.
Thanks anyway
