Wartime 1/4" drive socket sets
I recently gathered some of my wartime 1/4" drive socket sets for a photo op. The Waldens are from my keeper sets and I've put together the others because I just like 1/4" drive tools in general. The 1944 Snap-on set is a work in progress and I'm still looking for a few tools for it. If anyone wants to post their sets on this thread, please feel free to do so.

Re: Wartime 1/4" drive socket sets
Agree. Nice grouping, Don!
I've got a thing for the midget sets as well. Here's a few additions to your fantastic lineup.
P&C - still missing some sockets
Bonney - still missing a wartime V22, but Tin-Medic found me one from the repacks dated '53
And the 2 smallest sockets are post war as well...
I've got a few more I can post. I just need to dig them out.

Jason,
Those look great. Thanks for posting them. Looking forward to seeing more sets! I know that you have some great S-K examples.

Re: Wartime 1/4" drive socket sets
Here is a page from Tin Medic's 1944 Walden catalog that those who have Walden 1/4" drive sets in their MVMTS and GMTKs might find informative. I'm still hoping that others will post up their 1/4" drive sets.

Wonderful 1/4" collection Don! My 1/4" Snap-On set went to Tin Medic and here are some more (some 9/32")! I think the photo came via the Snap-On Collectors website. This 1942 advert for Walden shows a "MIGIT" set with the same set numbers but different combinations to Tin's advert. Interesting ratchet by the way:

Is that an Armstrong M110 9/32" straight driver I see top left?
I had to check in case you were hiding a WF-6 in there somewhere. I think only Armstrong and Plomb made all-metal 9/32" straight drives.

Don't quote me but I'm quite sure I have Williams and Armstrong all metal straight drive 9/32 drivers.

I assume the all-metal construction is because it will take the noticeably higher shear torque of the 9/32" drive compared to the 1/4"unless anyone knows of an all-metal straight drive 1/4" ?

Re: Wartime 1/4" drive socket sets
I assembled my S-K sets for a photo op yesterday. The lower left small set is possibly early war or prewar marked S-K Chrome. The other set's tools are either dark finish, plain steel or cad plated. The spinners were not offered as part of the sets but were available individually during the war. I'm still missing a few pieces for some of the sets, mostly unmarked extensions and some smaller sockets.

Re: Wartime 1/4" drive socket sets
On Thursday my Wife and I went to an estate sale in Concord, CA. While I was sorting through a large lot of sockets, she found this wartime Craftsman BE 1/4" drive set made by New Britain along with an open gear ratchet of the same vintage. Here are some pictures along with two period catalog images.

Re: Wartime 1/4" drive socket sets
Don,
That is one sweeeet Craftsman 1/4" drive set. As a Craftsman collector I have all of the components in BE but that metal carrier is the real find!
Congratulations!
Thank you,
Henry

Re: Wartime 1/4" drive socket sets
Thanks, Henry. I'm not a big Craftsman collector but I do have a fondness for 1/4" drive sets so those are now in my keeper box. I've made some progress with my Snap-on Midget set and will sneak my 9/32" set in as well. Tin Medic and the auction site sent me some pieces yesterday that really got them close to completion.

Re: Wartime 1/4" drive socket sets
Thanks for posting your set. I would have guessed at that set being 9/32” drive rather than 1/4” based on its contents. That looks like an M-21 screwdriver bit on the left end.
