Intersting Tool Find after Hurricane Harvey

Post by gpw6335 » Thu Oct 19, 2017 4:03 pm

I had two foot of water in my shed where I store my jeep tools and parts. Finally getting around to sorting and cleaning I came across my Brake Bleeder Wrench still had some protective grease on it I decided to clean it . The wrench is a replacement marked 41W1596-125 with a script F on the far end. Never saw the F before now. This has to be an interesting find. Terrible at posting pics. I can send pics if someone will post them. need a e mail. PM me.

?????????????????

I don't see a script "F" in the stamping....what I do see is something at the end of the "41w code" that, when the tool is turned vertical may be mistaken foe a script "F". What am I missing in the photo blow-ups?

I was just waiting for someone else to say it first.

Tom,

I think that script "F" you see at the top of the wrench might just be a splotch that is just coincidentally placed and coincidentally reminiscent enough of a script "F" to make one think it might be one. And that is consistent with other similar imperfections in the steel/finish, due to age, weathering etc. Unless it's one of those you-have-to-be-there things that the camera is just not picking up. I'd be glad to post new photos if you think you can capture it better.

Ok this will certainly be a matter of opinion. What are the chances of a stamped mark in that location and with the look of script F. It looks stamped to me. I am going to sonic clean it and see if it might clear up/ There were so many contracts and sub contracts on this stuff, who knows. I am not trying to prove a point just showing a interesting find.

I have no stake in disproving it, Tom. In fact my alacrity in wanting to help you post the photos (if you don't know, I am an MB guy) was due to my eagerness to see something unique.

But I just don't see a Ford script "F." I see the mark in the steel or finish that you are referring to, which is why i blew that area up for you, but it doesn't look like a Ford script "F" to me.

I purposely did not comment when I posted the photos for you, because I did not want to poison the well. I was glad to see someone else respond first.

Maybe others WILL see it and think Chuck and I are just blind.

Cleaning it up is a good idea. Taking a better photo of just that spot, if your camera will focus on it, may also help. Posting photos of other tools with the Ford script "F" next to it might also help. But I would give it some time, too. You only have two opinions so far.

Maybe you have to hold it to see if it is a F , but I don't see it either.....Hope it is a F......

Either way it's an awesome piece and I would display it proudly in my set. This item is becoming very hard to come by. Over the last 5 plus years I have only been able to acquire 2 BBW's. One was a lucky buy it now and the other was from a buddy in Colorado. In comparison I have found 3 times as many wheel pullers.

With maybe a few dissenters around, I think it is generally accepted that a Ford BBW would have the" GPW 17030-F" stamped on it (be it jaw-to-handle or handle-to-jaw) and that the MB WO-A5130 BBW would be the other options for FACTORY supplied BBWs.

We have no timeline to indicate when the "41 w 1596 125" marked BBW was introduced, but again, I think it is generally accepted to be either a post-war gov't purchase or a WWII purchase as a replacement by the GOV'T, and not by Ford or Willys.

These are ORIGINALS, not repops...
