Identifying WWII Jerry Cans

Post by Old Pal » Fri Sep 08, 2017 11:16 am

I have over 20 jerry cans of different styles including: large mouth, small mouth, water, USMC marked.

How can I tell if they are WWII or post WWII? Many are unmarked on the bottom 20-5-85. Hard to believe these were manufactured in 1985.

Those cans marked "20 - 5 - 85" are indeed 1985 vintage....those from WWII generally have the same types of bottom markings that include the year in them. There are exceptions including marking on the top of the can under the handle for instance...
