Re: Child Craft
Andy found one a year or so again. Short discussion on this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=48&t=280224&p=1627997&h ... t#p1627997
And no reference to Child Craft in the CPA contracts books.

Re: Child Craft
Totally uninformed stab in the dark - maybe an economy or subsidiary line of Craftsman?

I cannot find an iota of information on that wrench.

Re: Child Craft
In doing some research I saw that two other wrenches popped up on fleaBay, another 41-W-603-25, and a 13/16" obstruction wrench with the FSN 41-W-1468-475. In both cases the brand is stamped as one word and one continuous string of letters - CHILDCRAFT - unlike yours, stamped as two terms - CHILD and CRAFT - on two lines, sharing the C. So I don't know if it's Child Craft or Childcraft. Either way, the only thing I am turning up are references to Childcraft Equipment Co., as far back as the 1930's, with furniture, and books. It seems unlikely it's the same entity, but if they made steel products, I might entertain the notion of them being forced into defense production, or converting to defense production on their own, which did happen.
To me the name looks like it's in the same category as Penncraft or Mechanicraft.

Greg,
Your top pic sure looks like a Corny or Fairmount angle, and all the other ChildCraft DBEs I've seen remind me of Jos Shaw wrenches I've found.

Not familiar with Shaw but I definitely agree on the Cornwell. The heads are unmistakable. Maybe there's more life in my theory than I thought and they were given dies and steel from the Defense Plant Corporation.

Interesting observation, Todd.
Here's the 3/4" & 5/8" short DBE SHAW wrench that I found about a month ago for comparison. The boxed ends aren't near as thick, but the construction does look similar. However, the way the sizes are marked is not the same.

Next time I get to the shop I'll see if I can dig one of mine up. Unfortunately, I have to work every day until the 27th.................not sure when I'll get there.
