Re: My First Start at an GMTK
I did not know this, but am glad that I added some value to the on-going research. All of what I have found were on creep-bay. I have scoured pretty much every flea market and antique store within 50 miles of my house. Pickings are lean. It takes many hours to find one thing!! Everything y'all have posted is helping immensely.Wingnutt wrote: You may not know it, but this helps confirm my findings that these were the only four (4) sizes RTEC made.
Way better than just good. And found all together! The 11/16 x 3/4 is not easy to find in any brand and not all the Mfgrs even made it.
Are you finding your stuff in the wild (flea markets, garage sales, etc) or on fleBay? If out and about I am impressed with the tools in your area.

Re: My First Start at an GMTK
I was hoping to find the three DBE deep offset short wrenches from VLCHEK, but I just found they did not make the 5/8 x 3/4 or a WBG2024 Their largest size is the WBG2022 which would be a 5/8 x 11/16. The WBG1214 is easy to find, the 1618 a little harder, but I just could not find the 2024. DUH

Ouch. See here: viewtopic.php?p=1167385#p1167385, and here: viewtopic.php?p=1167417#p1167417, for warnings about Vlchek short and long pattern DBEs, way back in 2012!
It's a sad fact that despite all the great reference threads we've created over the years, and a stickie for better access to them, despite all kinds of charts, and even a quick-aid guide for flea markets, there are still too many brand-related facts like these that are buried in conversations. We're very good on specs, not so much on brand. Best place for that is too see what others have collected. I've done deep dives on certain tools (1/4 socket set a good and resurgent example). I have never done a brand cheat sheet that was as deep as it was comprehensive. Maybe because it is the most daunting to capture.
I guess we need a chart for the short offset DBEs like this one for the long pattern DBEs: viewtopic.php?p=1576404#p1576404
I can tell you that Snap-On and Bonney are good choices. I've completed a few of each.

Re: My First Start at an GMTK
The ouch was not so bad at $4. I tend to spend about an hour digging through the threads before settling on a brand, but there are literally hours of reading on each tool. You and a few others have done great work with the consolidation, so the onus is on us to spend the time to wade through it as it broadens the knowledge on all tools.
The link you sent is good. I think the difference between the WBC and WBG is the 15 versus 45 degree offset. And as pointed out on that thread, there does not seem to be a matching 2024, so others look like (to me) that there are combining the 15 and 45 degree into one set, which from the ORD images almost looks to be the case. I recall reading about the 15/45 issue a while ago but can't seem to find that.
For now, I am going to see if I can find all three listed in the catalog and hope no one "notices." I started digging my hole, and by gosh I am going to finish it.
In the end, to create a proper kit I will probably work on the more readily available Bonney or Blue point

It was a self-ouch, Ozzie. It pains me to see things like this that happened to me five years ago happen again. Yeah you can stay with Vlchek and go with a WB2024, I think, which has an angle, not an offset.

You are very kind to comment as you have. I will say that with all that the tool collecting community has done to uncover the truth, to post the research and pics it is less likely that others go through the pain. The info that I needed is there, if I had spent a bit more time looking before buying I would have $4.00 for a 1/2 of a six pack of good Belgian beer.
I do sincerely enjoy the brotherhood of this forum.

BICKHAUS 1/2 round file 8" tip to shoulder from a file tool roll with several other files, flat, three-sided and 1/2 round. The handle is unmarked and came with an 8" tip to shoulder Simpson file.

All quiet on the western front, but I did find this plastic handled "BONNEY No. 801 MADE IN U.S.A.", although the blade is only 1 1/2" long.

Re: My First Start at an GMTK
NICE! The model is actually S01 and specs at 1-3/4". So it may have been just made a bit short from the factory. That's a keeper. Pretty sure that all the Bonney drivers of the time were made by Stanley.
Ive got that same driver in my keeper kit and it measures 1-3/4".
Edit: the plastic is awefuly dark. I wonder if it's an older model?

Re: My First Start at a GMTK
Its been a while since I posted on the tool forum. I have been very busy with a frame off restoration WC 12. I found this very nice battery tested with case and instruction sheets. I am happy to add it to the motor pool mix.
