Cliff, thanks for the positive feedback.

Today's finds:

GMTK Correct:
41-P-1714 Crescent Crestaloy 940-6 US marked
41-S-1638 Vlchek Phillips screwdriver (flying V marked - perfect for my WC kit!)
41-W-486 Williams 8" adjustable
41-W-488 Walden Worcester 12" adjustable
41-W-1500 Husky 1/2" dr. breaker bar, H-3182

GMTK Questionable:
41-P-1652 CeeTee 8" pliers (might be post-war)

GMTK Incorrect:
Utica TL-13A (completes my CS-34 kit)
Blue Point X-2428 LDBE (3/4" x 7'8"), 1942 dated
Barcalo 7/8 x 13/16 DOE
Starrett 1" mic
Husky 1/2" dr. 13/16" deep socket, H-3639 (fits the other Husky stuff I'm accumulating; need to do some research, it may fit a different wartime kit)

And a chunk of non-G503 stuff (not pictured).

I'm really happy to get my hands on the Vlchek screwdriver - it's the first I've found "in the wild," and I've been looking for a while now. Saw a WF-38 PLVMB 1/2" drive ratchet, but it was "a set" with a bunch of chromed, multi-MFR sockets. Seller also had a Kennedy roller box with a Columbian vise (didn't look close, but think it was a postwar 4.5") and a grinder, but I let that go. Might end up regretting it, but my garage is filling up and don't have NEED for any of that.

Steve,
Those nice US marked Crescent 940 6 look GMTK correct to me. I believe that both Hartofoak and I have a pair of those in our sets.

Don,

Thanks for the point-out...that's a great picture of yours!

They sure do look like the spec for 41-P-1714: "PLIERS, diagonal-cutting, length (overall) 6"" I had a set of Crescent Crestaloys in my MVMTS - not sure if it's US marked or not. It will be shortly :)

Yesterday's pick-ups, only one GMTK item is dead-on.

GMTK Correct
41-S-1400 Offset screwdriver. No marks visible (yet), being cleaned up now. 8 1/4" long, made from 3/8" hexagonal stock

GMTK Incorrect
Irwin - USA (no FSN) 8.5" perfect handle screwdriver (user/possible replacement for my unmarked but loose handled screwdriver)
Irwin - USA (no FSN) screwdriver 6" (bought as a user)
No. 101 Spark plug wrench, 21/32" and 27/32" (thought it was Mossberg, but don't see a brand marking of any type)
Simonds 3 square file, 6"
3 square file, 3"
Those with eagle eyes may recognize the HBT material behind the tools. Per "Doughboy to GI" it is a Bag, Barrack, OD, but has no markings/label of any type. Still has the cotton rope closure.
Punch set. Civilian, post-war, made in USA for users.

I think we've had more topics posted/updated in the last 24 hours than the last couple weeks put together. It's nice to see the pace of posting pick up some!

Luke,

No specific plans for the bag...will email pics, to minimize bandwidth consumption here...unless others are interested in pics of it?

Blackhawk FA 11 30 ton Bottle Jack

Post by gpw_42 » Fri Oct 27, 2017 12:58 pm

Certainly not GMTK-related, but too interesting to pass up when I found this monster today. It has remnants of both OD and red paint on it; I can't tell which was the base layer which came later. I haven't yet pumped it up, which is kinda disappointing. It's full of hydraulic (?) oil (stuff stinks, and seems to be in good condition), but I've been unable to actuate the lever.

Any suggestions on when it was made? Was is used in one of the upper echelon kits? I was unable to find a jack in any of the Blackhawk catalogs on toolarchives.com.

I called Blackhawk, but the tech was unable to come up with any info, whether searching by model or s/n, so I emailed their inquiry address. We'll see where that leads - too soon to expect a response.

30 TONS!??!?!?!?!?!? Dang man! Did you have to buy a cherry picker to put it in the truck?

You might need this:

Retiree strong! :) It did come with a picker to get it into the bed of my truck, but it was all on me to unload at home. At 50lbs or so, it's manageable, but I wouldn't want to lift it too often.

I saw that kit earlier, and am concerned that's what it'll come to...I need to scare up a handle, or a pipe sized about right to go over the lever, then cut some notches in one end of it, to use on the T-shaped pressure release. I'm assuming that the serrated saddle is on an extension screw, like my other (smaller) bottle jack. I think an appropriate sized handle should help to move the lever, unless the whole thing needs to be rebuilt.

Thanks for the pointout, Luke, but if it takes an $80 rebuild kit, it won't be such a deal :(

I hear ya on the $80 kit! Although I have two bottle jacks that need kits. I may surf that site a little myself!

Received word on a different forum that the jack is 30s-40s vintage, based on the font of the data plate. That isn't surprising to me, but it IS good news. Now, with the OD remnants, I'm wondering if it went with one of the upper echelon SKOs, and if so, which one?

Is there a place to search those?
Steve
