I also picked up a nearly full set of 1/2" drive sockets with a ratchet which was cool.

Very nice SK set. Nice dark finish on the sockets and the ratchet. I've seen the dark finish on the ratchet both with and without the Pat. Pend. Good find!

I agree with Jason - my favorite ratchet and I love the finish. I saw one just like it last weekend but I passed on it as it had had too rough a life. Frozen and with most of the knurling worn away and too expensive. Is the selector brighter than the rest of the ratchet? I have two that have a similar finish but the selector is a lighter color than the body of the ratchet.

I am glad you guys like them as much as I do :D It is unusual for me to find a set together like that. The only odd one is a Williams in 7/16".

Bill, The selector looks like the same colour to me, although it has taken a few knocks it still works well.

A few more items from the last few weeks.

I believe this Kennedy machinist chest to be postwar but I could not resist the hand painted " Monty " on the drop down door. No idea of its history unfortunately.

I also found my first ever Husky Sockets, a PWA 2210 and a Snap On socket with a strange looking Date Code. The handle is a Shur-grip.

Very rusty box which contains a 41-g-124 gauge although the box is shot and the gauge seems to of been replaced it has lots of adaptors in it. The pliers are Vlchek waving banner.
The box is identical to the Stromberg gauge box that I have.

Roger, that's not a date code on the SO socket. That style font has not been used.

Roger,
I have a couple of green early Kennedy machinists boxes (in fact I just got the second one on Friday) but both of mine have conventional handles. I imagine that the leather handle on your nice "Monty" box would indicate that it is earlier than mine. I wish that I knew a way to date these exactly.

Does that drop down door fit your other Kennedy machinist chest? If so, I would be very tempted to put it on the other chest - which was legit wartime as I recall! I remember you were looking for a drop down door and I found a chest this time last year that had one and I said I would get back to you on it. Remember? I was going to try to sell it and if not, send you the door. That door has the thumb-shaped indent with the bail like pull, not the rectangular indent with the rectangular pull. And the drawers have the round pulls. I've always associated the rectangular pulls with postwar, but, like Don, now I'm confused. Because mine has a metal handle, not leather. I'd post a link but all you'd see is danged cats and PHOTO NOT AVAILABLE warnings. I lost all those pics in the inadvertent delete fiasco last year. I'll try to take some new photos tomorrow.

That is what I thought Steve, but it is just a 2 stamped into the side with no other date code . I wasn't sure if it had been made by a third party and coded with whatever they had available. Maybe it just came from somebodies number 2 set.

Don,
I dated it from the Signature Logo being registered in 1948 but I now see that although it was registered in 1948 they date its first use to 1933 so it may be earlier.

Greg, I remember well your kind offer of the front plate. The front plate on this unit is a different colour being ripple brown instead of green. The drawers run well on the new unit so this may become more of a daily user and the other may be reserved for my General Service Knife collection.

I finally got my hands on this today after waiting for a month. Unfortunately the guy took the top off of it because he didn't think they went together. He still has it so hopefully they will be re-united again

It is still solid but could do with a little straightening and rust treatment.

My lower drawers have handles at different heights.
The wartime style ones on this thread have high handles viewtopic.php?f=48&t=285636
The Signal corps photos show low handles viewtopic.php?f=48&t=279778
