2017 flea
Title says flea, but like last year, the first find of the year came from an unlikely place.
I took some aluminum cans to the recycler today and as usual, I take a look through the pile of 'trash'. Oh, what's that... a Signal Corps tag!
I'm assuming from the '52' in the order number that this box is probably Korean War era, but still a pleasant surprise. Nothing inside but a diagram.
Some pics. Happy 2017 hunting!

Re: 2017 flea
Jason, it's hard for me to pass up a sturdy metal container like that! The problem is that when I put something in them and set it on a shop shelf, I never see it again . This was the first time I've hit the market in 2 weeks, and me and my Son were going through withdrawals. Once again, the market didn't disappoint! It might have something to do with the 70 degree weather .
I liked that the Vietnam era shirts were still in the wrapper and never worn. The pliers were a great score as well- Fairmount
NESCO water can (1951)
PLUMB 16oz Ball Pein
Ken Tool tapered axle puller
M2 Tripod Cover
Multiple canvas pieces- my boy's first Canvas Tool Bag!
M13 Spare Parts Bag
BB DBE
Carpenter/Wheelwrights Tool bag
Imperial Brass Flare tool (matching manufacturer)
And some worthless leather Dunlap case that some weirdo out in California has an affinity for

Sweet! How about a few picks of those?

If you play your cards right you can trade him your Dunlap pieces for his Barcalo and Fairmount pieces!

Re: 2017 flea
Phil, here are the Fairmount pliers. Interestingly enough, me and the boy were specifically looking for these today. After reviewing the past threads, I thought it a worthy target. And of the dozens of CeeTee examples that I see every market day, I had never seen a set of Fairmounts. So, as the time (and wallet) was drawing to a close, I spotted these next to a Gems Oiler. I couldn't afford the oiler, because the seller stuck to his guns on the pliers-
I had to give an entire $5 for them .

Those are perfect! Nice find. Is there any pattern on the handles or are they plain/smooth?

Nice score! I haven't come across a pair of Fairmount pliers... yet. I would have given $5 for sure.
The rest of the stuff is just icing on the cake.
Man, you got that right! Made to last a lifetime. I mean, you can't leave that stuff behind, right?!?USAFpj wrote:Jason, it's hard for me to pass up a sturdy metal container like that!
I haven't been to the flea in about 2 months. Seems that we're having decent weather during the week, but then turns bad on the weekends. Would be nice to have a Wednesday flea like someone else on this board... ...
Way to get the year off to a good start.

Phil- the overall length is 6.5in. They are checkered on both handles, for a length of 2 and 1/4in as well. The only other identifiers are a numeral 5 on each handle, about midway up.
Pictures are worth a thousand words, but living in the woods has a few downsides. Poor internet upload/download is one of them...

Yep, your wrench package was delayed today as I knew it had to have this in it.Nice looking leather pouch!
So, is this a new piece, or one you've seen before?

Re: 2017 flea
I've never seen one before. Very cool. It will be a nice addition to the Dunlap collection.

Re: 2017 flea
Sunday flea was good. Finally some decent weather, which is really odd for January but I'll take it!
First aid kit with contents
12" Moore
Some Bonney sockets
Blackhawk DBE (post war)
putty knife, marked Cooks Products
Plumb screwdriver
massive Williams <W> 3/4" drive plug.
Cooks Products
Cook Paint and Varnish Co.
Kansas City U.S.A.
FAK is postwar from my limited research which is odd because the box of iodine swabs is dated March 4, 1943 and has a contract number W2826 md 2396. Leftover stock maybe?

Nice Score, Jason. Of all the adjustable wrenches I see on a weekly basis, I have yet to see a Moore...

The FAK box and contents look like a mix of kits and vintages, mud. I see you have something from Davis and something from Mine Safety, for example. They were two of the largest suppliers of discrete, complete kits.

Re: 2017 flea
Thank you, Jason, for allowing me to display my flea market finds! Me and my 13yr old Son are just out to have a good time and laugh at some of the ridiculous items we buy, only to get home and see that we were the day's losers, or heroes...
Armstrong Hi Tensile DOE 1727
Bonney 1025 V DOE
Bonney with shield 1725B and 1727
DC 7/8 socket 1628 (No other date codes?)
Drop Forged DOE- these things breed like rabbits
Imperial Brass tube bender (to match last week's IB flare tool)
Vlchek ball pein with re-handle- 9oz?
Penens B28 DOE
Dayton swivel socket- 7/8 (never seen a round ball jointed socket) Only other stamp was a capital A
Duro-Chrome DBE, no Circle X, 2014A 15 degree offset
Blue Point Supreme DOE with E date code?
GEM oiler w/ 4in base
M1 Garand weighted drill rifle for the rifle rack- paid $12
Interested in any and all thoughts on the tools, as we are still in the mode of 'WTH tool kit does this possibly go to?'

Re: 2017 flea
I'm pretty jealous of you guys with the weekday flea markets!
You're definitely picking up some winners.
The Bonney stuff should have a date code. 2 small letters forged into the shank. Alloy artifacts or tool archives can help you decode the dates.
The B in a shield is pre-war but still worth something on the collector market.
The 727 or 1727 size DOE is part of the Dodge toolkit I think.
The Duro socket is likely prewar, but could be early war prior to alloy restrictions. Looks chromed. The xxx knurling was changed during the war years to banded lll knurling.
The Vlchek hammer looks close to a 16oz next to that 4" oiler. Have you weighed it? The handle can add 2-3 oz of weight.
The Penens DOE is tiny. That's just a neat little wrench.
The Dayton swivel looks like a post war impact grade swivel to me. They did exist during the war, and I believe they are on the verified supplier list.
The DC 2014A is pre war if it says chrome vanadium on the reverse. If you clean it up and find the number to be G2014A, it's good for wartime. They did make this style immediately post war as well in that design.
E dated Blupoint is always a nice find. Date codes are the best.
The GEM oiler looks like the right style, but the spout looks too long for the GMTK or G503 application. How long is the spout?
Can't help with a date for the rifle...
Looks like a successful day. Congrats!
