Re: 2017 flea
That is a Williams u-joint. I've had most of the other brands but this is the first Williams I've seen.

Re: 2017 flea
Not a bad weekend. Another small load of wartime goods.
The box (presumably Union by make) has been repainted and has a round handle tray (E.J. or Hamilton). Like I needed another box... The repaint was probably done in service, since it's a nice thick layer of O.D.
Eight Plomb 1/2" drive sockets
6in Vlchek flying V slip joint pliers
6in Utica 7-6 slip joint pliers with a nice dark finish and the <><><> grip pattern
M.A. Co. mess kit dated 1942

I suppose I'll have to start one of these upper echelon kits...Gordon_M wrote:EVERYBODY needs another box Jason they just won't admit it. What's the tag on the corner of the box lid please?
The tag... there was something riveted to the box, a tag of some sort, but it has been removed. Just some yellow paint is all that's left.

Re: 2017 flea
I think I'd buy another one if I can find one in good nick. It will be home to my s-l-o-w-l-y growing body hammers and tools. They likely aren't military...but whatever. I like the GMTS box.Gordon_M wrote:EVERYBODY needs another box Jason they just won't admit it. Gordon, the PLVMB is yours, please send shipping info
The 'grabber' is a CRESCENT cable/fence puller. I pulled the winch cable off of my WC52 the previous day, and wished for a tool that could pull a cable taught to de-memorize the cable strands. Next day, I found this...
Don, Tin, and Luke- If you see anything you like, let me know, and I'll include in your already packaged toys, I mean tools

The clipper blades "look the part" to me.

I agree w/Luke.lt.luke wrote:The clipper blades "look the part" to me.
FWIW, we turned-in our Barber Kit in about 1995. It sure had "the look" of a wartime kit, but who knows how old it was. I'll bet that by 2003, that unit was wishing to have a barber kit; I assume the basis of issue was 1/company-sized unit.
You had a GREAT day at the flea, OB!

Re: 2017 flea
The question is... are those blades for electric clippers and were electric clippers part of the WWII kit?gpw_42 wrote:I agree w/Luke.lt.luke wrote:The clipper blades "look the part" to me.

Re: 2017 flea
I had forgotten the specifics. At one time, the Coleman lanterns had a funnel. Either fixed by chain to the lamp or in the box as part of the set. AZJeff would know more if you don't.USAFpj wrote:Don't think so, Luke. No screen, 2.75in wide, 3in length.is that a decontaminator funnel??????

Re: 2017 flea
You guys aren't helping my addiction! I just went through all the pages of stuff you guys have saved, and now I have the bug to hit the flea market this weekend and see if I can save any WWII-era tools to build a GMTK of my own!
I thought I had a pile of vintage tools, most of which I thought were possibilities for an authentic GMTK, but alas, most of them were either well pre-war, or 1950s/60s era tools. The later tools I'll put aside for a 1960s era GMTK that would work for a Vietnam era M-37 or M715 restoration. The only things I found in my collection that were authentically wartime were a Bonney 585-13 wrench (I think it's cadmium-plated), a few Stanley wood-handled screwdrivers which seem to fit the specs, and a 12-inch Diamalloy adjustable wrench. Everything else I had did not fit the bill.
So, off to the flea market to try finding some historical gold!
