Re: MVMTS/GMTK Era Pictures/wynmkr restoration
It's interesting that the box appears to be in pretty fantastic shape overall and yet, it has 4 missing feet and the tabs that hold the handles were obviously re-welded (not well) back onto the lid.
Nice to see the Vlchek driver in the box! It Think I have the same model for my 41-S-1640.
Strange to see duplicates for both the sockets as well as the DOEs.
How did you decide which [brand] sockets to use to fill the gaps? Just what you had on hand or was there some other thought process? Just curious.
I can't wait to see some of the other stuff!

Re: MVMTS/GMTK Era Pictures/wynmkr restoration
Jason,
I really meant to show pictures of all the original pieces first and then show the pieces I added to fill the gaps.....but for some reason I went ahead and showed my cards on the sockets. I have no doubt that as originally supplied the GMTK had matching socket sets by brand but as pieces were broken or lost they were replaced with sockets from a common bin. There was no concern with matching the brand, only the size. With that in mind I wanted to expand the diversity of the set found in this kit. As you know my favorites are DI but there are many other great brands to choose from and we are seeing more and more of them posted here. I recently traded some 1/2" DI sockets for some Waldens and I almost have a complete set of those which by the way look pretty awesome. Williams seems to be a legitimate choice that many of us overlook and I have always wanted to put together a complete set so I chose to use them. Likewise I believe originally the GMTK had a matching set of DOE wrenches but for the same reason became a mix as pieces were replaced. This is distinct from the on board jeep wrenches which could have easily remained brand matching. It is good to see the brands of wrenches found in this kit are consistent with those from ww2 and support choosing them for use at least in the GMTK.
More pics to follow.

Thought you maybe interested in my old post about "matching" 1/2" sockets for the GMTK. Those old RAPD images suggested they used non-matching sets to create the illustration:

Assuming the red tang files are Simmonds but what about the round and three sq?
Any brands on the file handles?
The drift is super nice. Obviously well used but what's the length at now?
Thanks for posting all the pics of this fantastic kit!

An excellent read and even then Roger was aware of the duro ratchet found in a pit in Germany.

The handles are "Lutz-like" but are unbranded. The round file and the half round are stamped "Johnson USA". The three-square is a Nicholson and the flat as you guessed is a Simmonds. The drift is well used but measures 1" diameter and not suprisingly just under 7".

Re: MVMTS/GMTK Era Pictures/wynmkr restoration
Here are the last remaining original pieces. A JP Danielson 12" adj wrench, an alemite GG adaptor, two punches and a 12" ruler.
A little clean up and chalk reveals the ruler to be from the Lufkin Rule Co.
The two punches are stamped UNITED and the other with what appears to be 3TRGAGE and USA.

Re: MVMTS/GMTK Era Pictures/wynmkr restoration
For the 6 piece wrench set I decided to leave the originals rather than replace them with an all matching set. I also decided to add even more divesity and use a brand/style not often used by collectors previously (Armstrong 1723 High-Tensile).
Jason, thanks for the Bonney!

Looks great!
I can't wait to see what you've used for the other missing pieces.
I like the mixture of tools/brands across the entire set. I may have to get a set of those BETR-GRIP adjustables

You're most welcome! I'm still looking for the 731A equivalent.pjones wrote:Jason, thanks for the Bonney!

Enderes is still in business today in Albert Lea, Minnesota. What is the date code on the BET'R GRIP adjustable?

Re: MVMTS/GMTK Era Pictures/wynmkr restoration
The JP Danielson is from 1942, K-7-2. My jeep is from '42 so when able I always try to go for a '42 assuming date codes are available.
