When I saw it I thought battery terminal puller rather than gear puller:

Vintage-Blue-Bird-No-21-Battery-Terminal-Puller Item 132237670874

That one is visually and structurally identical apart from the Blue Bird stamping and the number. I'd guess this is a tool made by one company and branded by several others.

Drive tools

Walden 2816 1/2-inch drive ratchet (can't tell if it's polished natural steel or chromed)
Herbrand script logo S-11 1/2-inch drive ratchet with a wartime "1340" AISI code
Herbrand block logo S-28 1/2-inch drive 10" extension

1-1/8" Blackhawk 40136 with a 1941 date code
1-1/16" Armstrong ST-1234
13/16" Armstrong ST-1226
15/16" New Britain NT-1230
1" Snap-On SW-320-1/2 "G" (typical marking)
1" Snap-On SW-320-1/2 "G" (alternate marking I have never seen before)
1" Snap-On SW-320-1/2 "E" (typical marking)
3/4" Snap-On SW- "E"
9/16" Snap-On SW- "E"

Other tools

Barcalo angle nose pliers
Plomb 1145 1 x 15/16 long pattern 15* DBE
Williams ALLOY 8" and 12" SUPERJUSTABLE crescent wrenches
CRAFTSMAN-VANADIUM (geometric logo, JP Danielson made) 8" adjustable crescent wrench with a 9/16" double-hex box wrench opening and an L-E-2 (1942) date code
Herbrand script H-2 tappet wrench
Blue-Point No. 1418 (7/16 x 9/16) S-wrench
Union center gage

I also spotted this oversized wartime toolbox. We’ve seen them in several period photos, and we're still not sure if it was the same FSN or not, and if not, what the FSN was and what tool-sets it went with.

This one was made by Union with the characteristic handle indents under the lids, the flat tray handle, and two oiler holes. Pretty good shape, too, with a proper OD.

Nice find on the box Greg. These larger boxes are shown in TM9-2852 as part of the field welding equipment in 1943 in Instruction Guide Welding. It gets interesting around page 350 for tools but no FSN for the boxes and no mention of them in the text that I can see.
https://ia801200.us.archive.org/22/item ... 9-2852.pdf

I can see that they would be useful for carrying some of the larger tools associated with the portable forge.

I didn't buy it, Rog. The guy wanted more than I was willing to pay.

Thanks for the reminder on the welding truck. One of these taller boxes is also shown in an open side cabinet of the Dodge M1 1/2-Ton 4 x 4 Emergency Repair Truck.

I suppose it held the Bonney Master Mechanics Kit that Dave King is collecting. I'll contact Dave in case he needs it - it may still be there today or tomorrow. The SNL G-61 does not include an FSN for the box in that kit. Just "RA-DD-D170" and a generic description that includes the spec "Type IV." The other box is an armorer's kit box, 41-B-1835-500.

The box was still there today, but I haven't heard back from Dave yet, so I didn't try to haggle with the guy. I did measure it for Don, who has a oversized tray (won't fit a 41-B-1840), and is wondering if it could be to one of these 41-B-1840-on-steroids boxes. The box measures 21" L x 9-1/2" W x 10" H. The tray measures 20-1/2" L x 9" W.

I did pick up this Signal Corps BG-125 bag. Also a Duro-Chrome No. 68 obstruction wrench (1/2 x 1/2) and a wartime (geometric underline logo) Craftsman extension. Can’t make out if it’s BE or (H) yet.

The BG-125 was used to carry the GY-40 antenna mast set-up for the SCR-625 radio. Several internal pockets.

Wing,
Thanks for the measurements. My oversized tray is 8-1/2" wide so I guess it isn't meant for that larger box. It's just about 1/4" too long to fit in a 41-B-1840 box. The mystery continues. :?:

All three (3) of the sockets are 1/2-inch drive with a 1” opening and identical, typical wartime construction features, except for slightly wider ribbed knurling on the socket on the far right. From left to right in every pic they are an “E” code, a “G” code, and a “G” code. But it’s that socket on the far right that’s an odd duck in my collecting and browsing experience.

The “E” code socket and the “G” code socket in the middle are marked like every wartime Snap-On socket I have ever seen or owned. The marking is wrapped around the base, all in one line, from left to right, just like this:

Snap-On 1 E (or G) MADE IN U.S.A. SW-320-1/2

The socket on the far right is marked all on one half of the socket, in two lines, with nothing on the other side, like this:

Snap-On SW-320-1/2
1 – MADE IN U.S.A. – G

Has anyone ever seen one before?

Snap-On NS-18 18" hinged handle breaker bar with a 1942 date code
Cornwell PB-6 16" lady's foot pry bar
Barcalo-Buffalo 28-S with an "E" code
Plomb WF-17 3/8-inch drive extension
And an Indestro No. 769 (9/16 x 5/8) SUPER-QUALITY half-moon wrench for my personal half-moon wrench collection (unless an Indestro guy really wants to talk me out of it...)

The box is an SK. Nothing special about the box, per se, but it has the best preserved label I have ever seen.

I'll post some close-ups after I get them cleaned-up.

This is the second NS-18 I've found, and I have to admit, I never noticed that the drive stud was twisted (mounted on a bias) on the hinge - i.e., it flexes from a corner of the drive stud to the opposite corner, not side to side. Very interesting. I don't think I've seen that on any other Mfgrs' breaker bars! Or is my obliviousness on this matter industry-wide? :D

Greg,

Very interesting on the creeper. Can't imagine what an aircraft mechanic needs a creeper for given the height of most aircraft but... cool item.

Thank you,
Henry

On another note. Is that traces of grey paint on that Barcalo 28S?

Thank you,

That spottiness is bare steel. This is the type of Barcalo with a black oxide finish and it has begun to wear a little in those spots.
