But the Moore in that kit is marked differently than Todd's. The Moore generally considered correct for the GPW is 12" long and has MOORE 12" on the handle. There are no other markings on it.

I also picked up the Duro-Chrome socket this weekend. What's the deal with the "G" stamp?

Probably the same as the "G" stamps on the DOE and DBE wrenches.

Edit: AA dates the Duro "G" code to 1945 based on the use of a "G" code by Snap-On for 1945 production. Some people point to the G61 through G69 stamped ignition wrenches as a confirmation of that theory (compared to those marked E61 through E69 - again, sort of mirroring Snap-On E and G sequence), but I'm not 100% sold on it myself. Duro ignition wrenches changed from 17xx series (1761 through 1769) to E62 through E69 well before the war started for us (in 1939). Some have postulated that they may have switched to an E model number series to mark their production for the federal government during the Emergency period, but there was no ignition wrench kit in the MVMTS until 1942. Who were they selling them to before then if not to the US Army QMC for truck fleet maintenance?

The "G" is only found on natural steel finish wrenches and sockets, as far as I know, so I do think they're wartime - I just don't think the Snap-On analogy is good enough to date them to 1945.

Agree. Especially since the xxx knurling on the sockets is an earlier design than what they were using later in the war.

Some of yesterday's finds. Top 3 are G code (last pic), all the rest are E (2nd pic)

That's a terrific haul, Todd. I don't think I've ever found that many Snap-On E or G pieces together at one time, of any kind of tool. Do you mind listing the sizes? Hard to read.

Btw, please take a minute and go to 12:35 of the third link in this thread ("troubleshooting") and identify the DBE... viewtopic.php?f=48&t=286957

Pretty sure that DBE in the video is a groove shank Blackhawk. Cool!
Nice collection of Snapon/blueprint wrenches Todd!

That's what I said on that thread. I thought Todd, who has quite a few of them, would enjoy seeing one in the hands of a WWII mechanic!

Really nice finds Todd. Mine weren't that good but I did find a couple of handles for some 4 oz heads I have. Some GMTK correct Allen and Unbrako wrenches. A few Star hack saw blades though not the ones I was looking for. I need some 1224 but these don't show up often around here and they were in pretty good shape so they followed me home. Also a Plvmb punch and Blue Grass chisel to go with the Blue Grass tool box I found a while back.

Nice Phil. What are the sockets and is the ratchet branded SK?

Jason,
the ratchet and sockets are very well made but unbranded.

Here are all the ones I found that I think are wartime:

Deep offset 1 1/16 x 1 1/8 x2, both E code;
Deep offset 3/4 x 7/8 x2, 1 E code and 1 G code;
Deep offset 5/8 x 3/4 x2, both E code;
Deep offset 5/8 x 11/16, no date code, cad plated;
Deep offset 1/2 x 9/16, E Code
Deep offset 3/8 x 7/17, E code
Normal offset 11/16 x 3/4, G code
Normal offset 9/16 x 5/8, 3 code

There are a ton of these out there. Referred to as "frankensteins" by collectors because of the selector rod on the side like a neck bolt. Some are unbranded but many are branded Oxwall or Mechanicraft. 1950's.

Thanks for the sizes, Todd.

It's ironic that the only GMTK wrench in the lot is often the hardest to find! Someone may need this. And if anyone is thinking of starting a set, it's a wise move to start with this wrench and build around it - and I am dead serious. There are a lot of guys trying to complete matching sets with brands that did not make this size wrench in a 15* angle pattern (technically, not an offset).
twertsy wrote:Normal offset 9/16 x 5/8, 3 code
I don't know what set this went in, but it's not a common wrench with that "3" code. The only Snap-On tool I've ever collected with a 1943 code was a 1/4-inch midget ratchet, also ironic, since it was the only 1/4-inch drive piece they were making at that time (made out of 9/32-inch drive parts except for the plug)!
