G503 Military Vehicle Message Forums

The scans below are all the illustrations from Army Service Forces Catalog CW 7-572160 Organizational Spare Parts and Equipment: 1st and 2nd Echelons: for Apparatus, Decontaminating, 1 1/2-Quart, M2 dtd 19 November 1943. I believe this is a fairly rare manual so I thought I would try my Christmas present out (a scanner) and post the results here (higher resolution scans are available if needed). The first picture provides a good guide on telling the different brands apart. The last shows the universal bracket and funnels. Note that only the Buffalo brand has a retention chain on the filler cap in this manual.

The interesting thing to me is that all of these have different nozzles from their civilian (1.5 qt) FE counterparts. I knew the Fyr-Fyter and G-D did, now I see that the Buffalo and Badger did as well.

Excellent !!! Thats what I need ! but I need more ! I wish to convert General fire extinguisher to Decontaminator. It is very hard to find good detailed pictures. Do You have picture of chain and the filer plug, and dimension of chain (one shackle), and dimensions of nozzle ?

I've built a replica G-D M2 -- with simulated nozzle-- from an extinguisher once. While the nozzle itself is a challenge (particularly the small discharge slot), the bottom of the extinguisher has a different profile overall. In the end, trying to make a 100% perfect copy will be very difficult. That being said, I'll provide you with the requested chain and nozzle dimensions when I get a chance.

In contrast, one can build and extremely accurate looking Fyr-Fyter replica M2 from a correct Fyr-Fyter extinguisher core much more easily since the only difference is in the discharge nozzle -- a common, brass acorn nut with a slot cut in it -- and their M2s came with and without retention chains.
