Re: My newly aquired Hotchkiss
You read my mind.
I was thinking everything from 12V to overdrive (engaged via hidden actuator, not shift lever) being a possibility without ruining the image.

Re: My newly aquired Hotchkiss
I agree with Luca, and would even go further: remember that Hotchkiss made just over 25000 M201s, while Ford and Willys combined made something like 650000 units. So a M201, kept in original conditions, is nothing to be ashamed of, even if not "ww2".
Instead, post-war use gives you a wide choice of equipments, colors, camouflages and markings that would, and that's just my opinion, make your M201 way more desirable and historically relevant than one trying to be disguised in a MB/GPW, that every expert or educated one will spot in seconds.
Plus you have a huge and cheap access to french parts no one wants!

Re: My newly aquired Hotchkiss
As long as I can pass it off as WWII in the same degree that I can pass off my Korea-era Garand as WWII, I'll use whatever is more handy. I doubt the paint is original Hotchkiss anyway, so I can't ruin it by adding a plausible hood number, etc. Hotchkiss parts are fine.

Re: My newly aquired Hotchkiss
I'll look at that site - thanks!
Picking it up Sunday, girlfriend was brave enough to agree to travel with me as I drive it the 190 km from pickup to my workshop.
Had another look at the pictures - I have a spare tire support which is a WOF touch as well. Might leave it, it keeps the car in better shape.

Re: My newly aquired Hotchkiss
Are you talking about the luttle support under the tire?
This was also on late MB and GPWs

Re: My newly aquired Hotchkiss
The support under the spare was an early 1944 item which was added when the 3 stud spare tire bracket was replaced by the w stud spare tire bracket. I believe the changeover information can be found in Lloyd White's Jeep Volumes.

WOF bodies use the same spare 2 Stud Spare Tire bracket.

Re: My newly aquired Hotchkiss
First thing you might want to do when you get the Jeep is look at the frame and tub.
The ad states "1958" so I think you should have a M201, hotchkiss made, with some MB/GPW parts like the hood and windshield.
These can be later additions, OR you can have a wartime MB, rebuilt by the french, using an original frame and new WOF parts. WOF and Willys frames are quite hard to differenciate, but serials, or tags will tell the story.
Hope you will enjoy your first ride !

Re: My newly aquired Hotchkiss
The W.O.F frames are superior to the MB frame as they have extra reinforcing, and are very similar, except for the M-201 with relocated rear shocks.

Re: My newly aquired Hotchkiss
The two following pictures are the box inside the passenger side of the tub, and where those wires go.
Body stamp. I can't tell what it says.
Under the passenger seat.
This was on the passerger side, in front of the door opening.
The engine "health"

Re: My newly aquired Hotchkiss
Hi, did the trip go well?
I think I see in your pictures:
-Ford Hood
-french grill
-french radio connexion block
-for sure early French tub
-can't be sure about the rest, but engine looks WOF, frame either WOF or Willys rebuilt by the French.
