Rivet Bolts for Gussets and Rear Crossmember

Post by thovis » Thu Mar 24, 2005 12:20 pm

I had some questions about using and installing Brent Mullins Rivet Bolts. I am pleased to say they are wonderful to work with and they look great when completed. I replaced both the front gussets and rear cross member, and I wanted the Rivet look.

Installing I snap in a socket (where it will fit) and twist until the nut is tight and snaps off.

Clovis,
What do the bottoms look like when they snap?
Do you have to clean them up with a grinder or something?
Also, can you tell us how to get them.

I am blurring all of my breakoff pictures (Sorry about that).

I didn't grind them... 1) very difficult to get to after a paint job (did want to mess it up). 2) I installed them so the break off side is not visible unless you get underneath the frame to inspect.

I used them this weekend. They are great!!!!

The break-off side needs a bit of clean up,and it will look the same as the "top" side..they are the cat's wiskers!!!

I highly recommend them!!!!!

Here is a pic showing the attachment of battery tray, engine brackets, and front bumper gussets, using them...I'm just really happy with them!!!

By the way..The engine bracket one's I did from inside-out.and cleaned them up after cinching.

Hi,Jim

Glad to know you made it home safe.

 Yeah,I guess I need a better flashlight before we go roaming the "back forty".

Now that I'm finally finished with frame repairs.Next Saturday I plan on re-installing the brake assemblies, and finally shoot some OD on the chassis, and put her back on the ground on all fours. :D

Regards
Bob

hello
are these self locking
or should one
put a little spot
of weld on the
underside, just
to make sure
that they will
not come loose?

Only time will tell.

I think using a thread locking compound, such as, "Loc-Tite" is the better way to go,since the original rivets weren't welded in.

Like all things,it's users choice.I just like to "Keep It Simple"(KIS),the way the jeep was designed, and built.

As far as price,I don't remember, but I believe they are worth the money. This is where to get them:

I think I paid $35 for 8 bolts (front) and the same for the back. Mullins has different lengths because the Front gussets require a longer length.
