GPW Spark Plugs

Post by Myers » Mon Feb 12, 2018 3:05 pm

I've been doing some research on the G, and it's been a while since any more information has surfaced concerning GPW factory correct spark plugs. I have a NOS boxed set of Autolite AN-7 plugs and Champion J-9 plugs. Hoping that one or both sets are correct for a January '44 GPW.

Thanks for any information

With those two options available I'd go with the Autolite AN-7.

I know they have been listed as “possible” for the GPW, but nothing put in stone. The QM-2 plugs are still listed as the only option according to the Jeep draw judging standards.

You can actually purchase AN-7s and even find the Champion J-9s if you search long enough.
Good luck with the QM-2s....repops aside, there are very few of them (real ones, not something else stenciled with the "QM-2") in existence and everyone who has them that I know of either has one in their Spares Kit only or, if they display the jeep in Factory Class, keep a set of four boxed and available for the Judges and do NOT.....install them on the jeep!

If your jeep was a 1942, then find some repop QM-2s but still run some reliable modern plugs...since it is a 1944 GPW, I think some detective work on the gee would come up with the AN-7s in use by then...

Hi Boone,
How's life at Whop Whop land? Are you a WO-1 yet?

AN-7's are a little too early for a 1-44 GPW. The changeover was around mid 44. That's the truth as I have found as of now and is in the revised GPW Restoration Guide that is in final review right not.

Mike,

Thanks for the info, so QM-2's are still the only factory plug for my GPW.. That's what I was afraid of

Yes, I'm a WO1 now. Lots of whop whoping from the AF's UH1's that are here, our 72's make more of a buzzing sound

Thanks again for the info
