Britisch army color shade
What was the color shade of MB- GPW made for Britisch army when new in USA? Did get the jeeps correct Britisch color already in the factory or were the vehicles over painted newly in UK with the Britisch green?
Thanks, Lad.

They were standard jeeps and some still had the USA registration number. There are images of British jeeps where they simply stencilled the British M census number over the top of the USA number and nothing else.

Ok, thanks. And what about color shade? I think the Britisch green was different from OD, wasn’t it...?

The Australians like the Brits used full gloss 'Deep Bronze Green' paint but well post WW2, in the 1950's.
This paint setup was not too good for camouflage, but looked nice on parade & gave soldiers something to do, continually polishing vehicles, like their boots. http://www.warwheels.net/images/British ... liott1.pdf
My business in the late 60's was a contractor to the military & we were instructed to repaint all the Hunter River Lancer's Land Rover vehicles in a matt finish 'Olive Drab [Lusterless]'

Olive Drab was ordered to be sprayed on the existing vehicle fleet and newly purchased vehicles from 1967 forward were factory painted in Olive Drab. Some vehicles that were transferred to the Army Reserve in the late 1960's were not painted in the new colour scheme before being released from service, (eg: the Studebaker 6x6, Austin Champs and Dodge Ambulance fleet) and some others stayed in service for ceremonial work still sporting Deep Bronze Green.

If you require an exact answer you need to be more specific of time frame and theatre of operation as the colours changed significantly between 39 to 45 and the European, Middle East and Far East theatres.

Thanks for perfect guaidline!
My Area theater is Western Europe 1944/1945, so if I undestand right, at this time, the standart US olive drab was accepted/adapted to British Army...(see below)?
"1944 – 45 The final change in colouring came in April 1944 when A.C.I. 533 authorised S.C.C. 15 Olive Drab for use as the new basic colour, partially to remove the need to repaint US supplied vehicles."
Thnaks!

Not Jeep but related to this thread subject: I have a weasel that was supplied to the British in '45. The hull was not repainted (original OD remains today) or the original USA number covered over. The only change was the addition of the British P census number. Photos attachedLadislav wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2018 11:16 pmThanks for perfect guideline!
