Safety strap swivel identification

Post by vargento » Mon Jan 15, 2018 5:20 am

Hi,
I have a 1944 MB (she's my second Jeep!) that seems to be nearly unmolested. Nevertheless I'm checking all the accessories to be sure that everything is original. Both swivels have a mark on the side facing the body that you can see in the pic. Original or repro? Any idea?
Thanks in advance
Vittorio

Hello Vittorio!

Here is a of the same style strap swivel....this one was removed from a GPW...so I believe yours is factory original. I do remember that at some point in time a FLAT stamped style was introduced and I think it was at Willys but it may have been later than your jeeps' DOD. If your jeep appears to have been in a rebuild program it may have acquired that one from any other jeep...parts is parts in those rebuild programs!

This one appear to have a capital "E" in a circle like yours does....

Thanks Chuck, very interesting and very good news for me! This MB is a source of unbelievable surprises: among the others, she still has the two small stamped squares above the rear seat brackets with the bolt covered with layers of OD! Very unusual....
