How can I date this ford gpw engine?

Post by Rob82nd » Sun Jan 14, 2018 9:03 am

I just bought a 1942 Ford gpw on G503. A big restauration project. But the engine in the jeep is willys.
So I spoke a friend of mine and told this story and he told me he had a Ford gpw engine for sale. But he did not know how old it is. Could someone help me to date this engine?
I dont have a lot of pictures but i hope someone could help me.

Look at this thread. This might help. Is there a serial Number on the oval pad that is located on the block behind the Oil filler tube.

Hi; I had a similar engine block.
My thought is that this is not a Ford WW2 engine; and not a Ford made engine, but rather a post-war block made -probably- at the Daimler Benz / Mercedes factory in germany

I have only heard good things about the quality of the "german gpw" parts.
Mine was the only block I had that was totally flawless
