Gas tank restoration service, any reccomendations?

Post by waterdawg2004 » Sat Dec 16, 2017 1:35 pm

Pulled the tank out of 1944 MB. Rust on bottom inside tank and gas weeping from somewhere? Has anybody tried a gas tank restoration service and had any luck with them? I would like to get it cleaned, lined and painted. Any idea of cost and how it worked out? New repro tank costs $450 so I may go that way. I do not know if it is the original tank or not, how would I tell? Thanks for any help.

When I first read your title another type of “Tank” came to mind.

I used Midwest Radiator here in Omaha on my rare mid series fuel tank and a later Olaco. They were hot tanked and then had a ceramic sealant coated on the inside. Yes, they ensured that the pick up tubes didn’t become blocked. I need to dig out my receipts on the cost.

If you send me photos of your fuel tank, I can possibly ID it for you.

Yes I have had Vintage Power Wagons perform the "Rhino Renu" process, and it has held up well since 1994. But it costs about the same as a new jeep fuel tank. Just depends on if you want to use your old one, or go with a new one. I usually buy new ones now.

If MD Jaun was the only source for new tanks, I probably would have the old one restored. But now the Olaco repos are out there, so I vote to buy a new one and be done with it. Clean gas is paramount to a jeep running smooth.
