April '44 casting dated blocks show up with the "X" numbers on them.

6/22/45 casting = 13229X Chuck
7/12/45 casting = 13537X twinflyer
7/??/45 casting = 15839X Fabrizio

Are we seeing a pattern here? Anyone else have a "X" block?

My engine has a casting date of july 17 (G17522).

@dcpd: there are only low numbers because this serial system began to be used only after (some day) 1944.
Before that, all Ford replacement blocks were delivered totally blank, Wilson blocks at the beginning and well after the VEP timeframe, and Ford style casting after.

The "X" serials are only a serial number of the engine manufactured as a replacement engine, and are absolutely not related to the GPW (or MB) they could be fitted in. The serial of the frame or of the replaced engine could be restamped on the usual pad, that was left blank for this reason.

Right; I am positive that the X number was placed on the engines at the Ford plant and not during time of installation into a vehicle, and is unrelated to any vehicle number, as some have suggested in the past, here.
I was just trying to set that straight.
My replacement GPW engine is 6150X with a production date of mid 44; forgot where I put the picture of the date.
