Hi Will,

Sorry that you couldn'tt find your Yanks DVD  but it's nearly always on one of the channels. I went to what they called the Northen Premire of the film in 1979. It was shown in the same cinema that they used in the film, and they used the organ too. The building has been knocked down now :(

It was very interesting to hear about My Mother and Other Strangers, I saw the jeeps and trucks in it, but the stories weren't great, so I never watched them all.

Will, is your engine gear driven? The front covers are different, and yours looks like the gear one. Only asking, because i'm not too sure if the dizzy is different for the two belt vs gear. If you don't know, I would post on the CJ board. I could be wrong, have been with things in the past  But wouldn't want you having trouble down the line.

Will, if you want any parts to convert back to PCV, shoot me a PM. Do you have any photos of your inlet manifold?

That is looking nice MB2A. Regarding the film "Yanks", yes it was a great film, but they cut a lot of it when shown on T.V. Also the MVT done an article on it in their magazine a few months ago.

I also blasted and painted the distributor locking mount.

Cheers

Hey Will, if you want a more factory correct appearance then your distributor locking plate should be Cadmium plated...not painted OD. A little late now, I know.

I commend you on all the work you’re putting into your CJ2A to make it resemble an MB.

It was a really interesting and enjoyable article Dave, i hope your friend got the credit he deserved for writing it. I also liked the photos of the actors "off their guard". :D And more importantly, he has a Slat Grill.

Still working away on the jeep this week, not much time for updates, flywheel bolted to crank, torqued to 36 ft lb, you can see the difference from the previous pics of the engine of the OD i had, the water pump is the matt version of tony sudds OD. The engine colous is the mix colour of his paint called mix1. Small bit of clear coat added, it makes for cleaning much easier i think, the finger prints etc on the new paint was driving me mad.

Worked on clutch release bearing today, degreased, tapped a grease zerk on, filled with high temp aviation grease, and soldered over holes, no play, nice and smooth.

Hello folks

Some good progress today, i mounted the cylinder head studs and used permatex 2 to seal them up, used the two nut method to tighten them down, went well. Installed water pump. Oil pump, followed john bartons advice and a few others on the Gee, placed oil pump, fat side on top, pointing to 9.30. Pushed in, and engaging with cam gear it turned to around 11 11:30. What do you think?. Does it seem lined up?. Installed distributor and rotor points to 5 5.30 position. Also done the valve tappetts to .016 using the 9 method, hope i have that done ok. Just got to set the distributor now and land the head on the block, hopefully doing that in a few hours.

quick photo update for you all, cylinder head mated to block, torqued to 30ft lbs, and then 61ft lbs. Tappett clearance adjusted to .016. Does the distributor direction look correct?. Apologies i cant write much more, inbetween full time daddy duties and work, the jeep gets squeezed in.

Many thanks

Will

hello folks, away from the forum for a few weeks, some updates on engine, flywheel has been installed and torqued, clutch and pressure plate installed, and aligned. Bell housing installed, torqued down, starter installed. Oil filterhousing repainted and coated in a 2pk clearcoat, will help keep the decals and finish safe. Oil fillter tube also installed. I have a new set of spark plug leads from joes motor pool, his items are high quality repros, alsp went with the bakelite rain covers but will prob change these to rubber type. The oil line inlet grommit i managed to salvage from my old body tub, the grommett where the spark plug leads pass through, was from a local usaaf base dump, nice to use a piece that likely seen aerial combat during the war, i wonder what stories it could tell. I have thousands of pieces from usaaf wartime bombers that where here, that where broken up and salvaged, these are not from crashed aircraft, far too ghoulish and disrespectful to head down that road. This is something i plan to do with the whole jeep where i can, retrofit and use some of these parts, such as wiring etc.. Still need to sort pcv line out, will drop you a line dave, many thanks. Hope you enjoy. Will
