Re: Document holder welded to underside of MB hood
What does it look like? Do you have a picture? the reason I ask is because my VEP had some sort of something welded on the hood brace that looked like a giant paper clip. I am sure it was a field mod or a bubba. Just wondering.

It is welded on? Wow. Thank you for the picture. It clears up that mine was obviously a bubba or private Pyle thing.

Re: Document holder welded to underside of MB hood
Hi all,
Just been doing a little reading. I do hope that David doesn't mind me putting this on here, as he did ask about a MB lube holder?
For Gpw's, it states in the Judging guide that, A lube chart holder was added to the underside around November or early December 1943. It doesn't say what type, but I would think it was the one piece one.
In AAW Vol 1, there is a drawing, in the parts anyone can make, that shows a 3 piece holder, and the 1 piece holder. It states that the 3 piece is a Ford only item, and the 1 piece for the MB. I haven't got my Farley book to check if John had any photo's of them.
I haven't got a lube holder, and my hood hasn't been drilled for it, so i'm not fitting one.
Hope this helps, or it may make things more confusing

Re: Document holder welded to underside of MB hood
Amen,
David, I guess that your MB needs one? There s a drawing in AAW Vol 1, but I don't think that they are that easy to make, and you need to get the 2 rubber bungs. Did you have a look on Jeepdraw? it shows them.

Re: Document holder welded to underside of MB hood
No. It was welded to the cowling side support. It did not look "professional" by any stretch.David Keeler wrote: ↑Sun Dec 03, 2017 11:10 pmbolted on through the top, like the picture of the red jeep just posted..1943Willysgpw wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2017 12:41 pmWhat does it look like? Re: Document holder welded to underside of MB hood
Here's a few pic's of the one on my 1943 GPW, it look's like it has had some pretty rough repairs on it, it was on the jeep when I got it.
It is put on with screw's.
