Re: Need identify engine what year it is.
Thank you so much for your help Michael.
Now I know which engine belongs to. I didn't want to mix them up in a different war time jeep, I was cleaning up my big shed and found few jeep engines and have no idea which one was mine and which one was my brother in law. So now I have the date for the GPW engine and which one was mine. Thanks Michael.
I have a few more jeep engine deeper in the shed, will have a look next weekend for the for the number I believe it could be MB engine.
Will post more engine number soon.
Peter

Your GPW’s original motor would have had the same serial number as the frame and nomenclature plate.Peterdodge6volt wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2017 10:02 amSo now I have the date for the GPW engine and which one was mine.

MB engine...Oct 14 cast date (1943). You’ll find a machining on the block in one of the rear corners on the oil pan surface....probably around 10-16-43. Are you sure the last numbers don’t read “NI- CR 2” instead of “N1 - OR 2”?
NI CR is the composition of the alloy used in the casting (Nickel Chromium).
I would estimate that this engine was installed in an MB at an approximate serial number of MB 277XXX.

Hi Michael thanks for you help.
I will check the engine again next weekend to see if it's an CR or an OR.

Ok I finally get the chance to look at my moto which I forgot to put on the the last few post.
Here's another one.

The one does not say OR just CR.
Thanks
