GPW 22192 Transfer Parts; Useable?

Post by Frankie » Sun Oct 15, 2017 6:37 pm

I disassembled my D18 Transfer and found that the intermediate shaft was galled and there was slight damage to both bearing cages. I will be replacing those.
I'm uncertain about the intermediate shaft thrust washers, wondering if they can still be cleaned up and used, or whether it is best to replace them. Also the Front and Rear Output Yokes show wear to the sealing surface; are they still useful or should they be replaced? And, what is the best way to remove the yoke dust shield with slinger?

Replace the thrust washers. Those yoke can probably be turned on a lathe but you'd have to modify your seal or sleeve the yoke ends. Yoke are extremely plentiful so I would probably elect to replace then with good used or NOS yoke. Just tap the shield off the yoke...it's friction fitted, that's all.

P.S. I've heard they make a "beefier" type seal which may work for shaved yokes?

The Redi Sleeves have a smoother wear surface than the factory machined surface on new yokes and Companion Flanges, Oil Seals love that smoother RedI-Sleeve/Speedy Sleeve surface.

I installed a "Speedi-Sleeve" on the rear axle yoke on my GPW many years ago and the leaking stopped.
