what type thermastant

Post by pkozak1 » Mon Sep 25, 2017 6:10 am

Good morning Guys, I know this is a beat dead horse, but I can't remember and can't find it. What different heat rating thermostats are there for the L134 engine in our Jeeps. I put in the 170* from Ron (637646) and all is fine but the engine runs at 180* - 185*. Is this ok as I just finally got the baby on the road and maybe I am just a little nervous. Thanks.

185 is totally fine; as is anything that doesn't boil the water. Lots of guys wish their L134s would run at 185; all these thin walled cylinders tend to heat up and these old radiators ain't what they used to be. So, no need to worry.

Anything between 160 and 190 is fine, also take into account what climate you are in. :)

Thanks Guys! I am just about finished with the restoration. I just am waiting on my stencils and data plates from over the pond and it will be 99% complete. I feel like the father sending his kid off on his own. A lot of learning and hard work goes into these Jeeps.

I have always installed the 160F, same as factory did. Had no problems in 60 years.
