Rear Seat springs/Hair sets

Post by Ralph » Thu Aug 17, 2017 9:22 am

Here are 2 rear bottom seat spring/cow-hair sets. One hair-only set,all suppose to be from wartime jeeps...all have been re-covered...one with OD canvas, one with OD vinyl, one with black vinyl(not shown). The two spring sets have the cow hair in place, the other was from a hair-only seat cushion. One spring assembly has remnants of an (unreadable) wire-tag.Possible to confirm that these are ww2 era by these pics? Thanks.

The green vinyl is from post war CJs...
The canvas covered spring set MIGHT be WWII correct but if you plan on having it recovered in OD canvas and it won't have a zippered pocket (as the later jeeps had) then if it has decent springs and the padding is intact it should be OK. I have seen a large weave burlap put over the springs, then the hair padding and then the canvas on seats so I would try that method. You will need the surrounding wire strengthener and the flat-stock keepers to complete the seat.

The hair-only would be OK for an early rear seat with a zippered pocket in it.
