Hi mate,

What do you want to know about them?
Change over?
Differences?
Anything in particular?

Cheers,
Ian.

I was wanting to know about the brass/pressed leavers. What dates did they change over and were they used on both Ford and Willys?

Thanks

H.K. they were used on both Ford and Willys, and both had changed to standard steel by the end of June 1942, hope this is a help, and where in England are you located, are you near me ? im in south Birmingham.

I have just purchased a 44 GPW with cast levers.
I am down south near Brighton.

Hi HK,

I am sure Marks answer helps.

Re your cast levers, i suggest a few things to think about.

1- is it a later production windscreen? -Rifle bracket mounts AND Larger 'dip' at the top of the drivers side outer/front edge vertical part of the frame for the inner to slide in. These are the easy ones to use to ID frame era.
2- if a later frame, maybe they have just been swapped.
3- are you sure it is a 44 GPW? Lots of reasons why it is/isnt such as: May have been through a rebuild and that could explain the earlier windscreen frame? What number was used to determine its a 44 GPW?

Sounds like you are off to a good start- you have found the best place to find information and get help with a jeep.
Is she a runner or a project?

Cheers,
Ian.

It is a later screen with the brackets etc so that would be correct for the 1944 chassis and body number. I guess they were just replaced at some point maybe as part of a rebuild.

Thanks for the replies.

If it has the brass hold downs, and they are original...they are highly sought after by early GPW/MB guys. Condition is important, but a fine pair will be better suited to another guys' jeep. You can sell/trade them for the much more common stamped steel late style.
