I also purchased a set of Goodyears from Universal Tire. No complaints, they had all the tubes and flaps in stock, and were great to work with. And the Goodyears are a really sharp looking tire 8)

Has anyone compared a GI Issue Cooper 7.00 X 16 NDCC to the STA 7.00 X 16 NDCC ?

FWIW, I've had Specialty Tires of America NDTs on my MB for ten years and 3,800 miles now. They've worn very little, and evenly. There's no dry rot or checking. I have not even had the urge to rotate them. I used STA's tubes and flaps and they fit perfectly. I've had to make no repairs. Of course these tires and tubes may not even be absolutely identical to the same article that STA offers today, but I've been impressed.

Before the STA tires can go on the market, there is Gov't required specification and product testing.

Original Goodyear 6.00 X 16 NDT will give 25,000 miles with tread remaining, and Goodyear 7.00 X 16 will give 30,000 miles with tread remaining on Jeeps having scheduled rotation and front end care.

Bringing up an old thread with a review of the new Firestone repro 600-16 tires.

I bought them in November of last year and installed them on my combat wheels. My old tires were almost 30 year old Denman 4 plys that served me well with a lot of off-road miles, probably had 15K on them. For various reasons, I didn't drive the jeep until this month. First think I noticed is that the new tires ride much better than the old tires, probably due to the nice soft rubber, compared to the old tires. Next thing I noticed was that the Firestones are quite a bit louder as to road noise, even compared to the Repro Goodyear tires I put on a friend's MB. At speed, it's like you are driving with some angry bees. It doesn't really bother me. The old 80 lug Denman NDT's were pretty quiet in comparison (maybe 30% tread remaining on those). I attribute the noise to the fact that the new Firestones have the stepped lugs, where the center tread is not in contact with the ground at all while on pavement, the air rushing through that point is probably what's making the extra noise. I'm guessing they will get quieter as the raised portion of the tread wears off.

Last weekend, I drove my jeep about 50 miles each way on the freeway at speeds up to 65 mph (Remember I have overdrive) to participate in the Dodge Power Wagon meet at Lytle Creek. The new tires handled the high speeds very well and seem to track very straight on the grooved freeways we have here in SoCal. When I installed them I balanced them. They rode very smoothly at 25 PSI. Temperature approached 105*f last weekend. No shimmy, shakes etc. Very nice. At the Dodge meet, they had a trail ride, probably 12 miles on mild trails, mostly graded dirt fire roads, with a mile or two through a rocky wash. The tires handled it well, no chunking in the rock, never had a tire slip.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Marty,
I had a very similar experience. Purchased Firestone tires, tubes and flaps from Universal in May 2015. They look great. Ride well. No complaints.

One can actually ID GI Tire brands by the signature road noise each brand makes.

I own and run/drive both the STA and Firestones. I've discovered that the STA run truer with less bounce than the Firestones. Firestones are noisier. The pencil point of the Goodyear and Speeday tires look more authentic. I also bought a set of Interco tires made in India for my Jeep pickup. 700-16's. Those tires are the worst quality tire I've ever owned and have signed off on buying anything from India. Very disappointed. I think the pencil point Goodyears would be my next choice for a WW2 Jeep. More money, but look more like real WW2 Jeep tires. John

Oilleaker1, are your Firestones the older ones which were simply re-badged generic 600-16's that were available 3 or so years ago or the current production with the mold copied from the WW2 original Firestones as supplied to Ford?
